Dutchman’s pantaloons! One of my favorites. I have some trout lilies up on my property. Spring Beauty is so delicate. I love all spring flowers. Thanks for sharing your spring.

I found trout lily leaves but no blooms yet. I’m still feeling pretty darned springy.

Beautiful pictures! It just warms my heart to see that, once again, spring has sprung. The first picture looks like little ducks with their mouths open. 🙂

That’s what I thought too! Little ducks laughing! Glad you enjoyed spring springing.

This is true, although some of my hoping springs seem to be a little rusty.

What, no snow?

None! No snow! None at all! We are giddy. I was just standing out on the deck with Miss Sadie and the Cowboy, our backs turned to the lovely sunshine that was pouring down on us. We had a snack of farmer’s cheese and cherry tomatoes. (OK, I had that snack. Miss Sadie and the Cowboy had Milkbones.) I hope Mama Nature wasn’t paying attention. It would be just like her to dump three feet of the stuff on us just to show us she can do it.

What wonderful photos. But now, I have to ask — might the flowers have names? I haven’t a clue what they are. I gather from the comments that the white and yellow are Dutchman’s breeches, but the little lavender and white striped number is just as delightful. I know tulips and forsythia — and lilac — but I don’t remember seeing these.
That viney thing with the catkins is cool, too. And look at those mare’s tails — you have real spring, right there.

The flowers do have names, and I apologize for being too wordless. I’ve gone back and put in captions. The viney thing is, I’m pretty sure, a Harry Lauder’s Walking Stick, which is an ornamental sort of hazel. The catkins are its flowers, but they don’t produce any nuts. The branches are endlessly convoluted, and I like to look at them this time of year when they’re bare of leaves. I always call it a wacky willow but it really isn’t a willow.

Wow! Dutchmen’s breeches and mare’s tails (clouds). The “eyes” on the Dutchmen’s breeches flowers make me think of those old cat’s eye glasses frames (yes, I had some blue ones) that were so popular in the 1960’s.

I had those glasses, too. I should dig out some ancient photos. Maybe not.

Oh, spring giddiness can lead to every sort of omission: dusting the house, for example. What are a few words here or there? I love the wacky willow. Sometimes real names are good, but sometimes pet names for our plants are even better.

Maybe I’ll go dust the house. Can’t remember the last time I did that, and on the evidence, it was quite awhile ago.

Spring is sproinged! Hooray!
I still remember our conversations about the trillium back in the day! 😉

Yes. If I am alive and blogging in Michigan in April and May, there will be trilliums!

Yes, my H. Lauder (crooked man) tree is blooming this year also. Mine doesn’t bloom every year, in fact probably every third year is more like it. Your photographs are really fantastic. I didn’t know the Trilliums were ready all ready, I have to go into my Secret Garden and check to see how mine are coming along.

Thank you, Sharon. It’s good to learn more about the wacky tree. I haven’t seen any open trilliums yet – just a few buds (and now today the wind is out of the north and we are all grousing about again). Take a camera with you to the Secret Garden and show us what you find!
