You would not want to see what it’s like out there today. I will show you Wednesday instead. Sunny day—check. Bouncy dogs—check. Off to Barnes Park.
The sign on the headquarters cabin says: Campers: If we’ve missed you, fill out an envelope and deposit it in the box below. If you’d like, fill out a comment form to put in box. Just thought you’d like to know. The Cowboy had some thoughts, but as he lacks opposable thumbs, and I was not willing to take off my mittens to write for him, we let it alone.

I’m trying to think of some suitably witty comments and failing at the moment. Oh well… At least the cowboy seems to have had a good time in it (but I bet he liked going back into a warm house a lot too). Is that a birds nest in the tree?
Great photos!

Not a bird’s nest. Not a squirrel’s nest, either, which is what I thought it was when I first saw it. It is either a burl or a gigundus wasp nest. I’m betting on the burl. Or maybe just hoping.

Only if misery really did love company, which in my experience, it doesn’t. I have kept additional blue sky photos in reserve, just in case!

Great park. I think you should write a note to the park ranger and drop it in the box…that you missed him or her too….but decided camping under several feet of snow wasn’t in the cards…this time. Cowboy could sign it with a big wet kiss.

Oh, we know Park Manager Eileen Wallick and her trusty sidekick, Ranger Teddy. If the Cowboy wanted to say hello he’d just call her up. (He has speed-dial.)

Picnic tables stacked under the shelter tell of summer fun to come! Love the sunshine, too. It helps a lot, doesn’t it?

I can manage winter just fine when the sun shines. And the plow comes!

Hmm, once again you are sending me off to Google! I was wondering about the nest-like object too, but I don’t know what a “burl” is! Hoping for you it is not a hornet’s nest. Bouncy dogs are happy dogs; I must say even my duo seems to be getting tired of the snow around here now. They are far less bouncy than after the first couple storms. I think I need to invest in better boots if I am to walk them anytime before April or May!

Should’ve thought to put this link in the post, but you can see wonderful things that Dale Reedy, Woodturner, makes from burls in this archive post. Good boots, SmartWool socks and YakTrax are my friends. Without them, I would have to live Away.

The image view of the water is beautiful, glad that it’s not covered with ice and snow.

Thank you! I’m glad it’s still open, too.
