It’s beginning to look a lot like Autumn on Michigan Trail. It’s too shady in the woods for the spectacular show going on along the high ground inland, but we have our moments.
I trotted off to Betsy’s Orchard Talk blog to see what the Kings had for sale this week (McIntosh, Gala, Cortland, Mutsu, Jonagold and Northern Spy apples—Spies are for pies!—Bosc Pears, Stanley Prune Plums, squash, cornstalks, gourds and pumpkins). That reminded me that I wanted to show you the annual incarnation of the Dawsons’ Pumpkisaurus.
Then there is the deliciously inventive work in the Rare Threads fiber show at the Jordan River Arts Council gallery in East Jordan every afternoon from 1-4 pm. There are many elegant and sophisticated things in the show, and I commend it to your attention, but I have to show you Goatkiss first.
If that is not the second-sweetest face you’ve ever seen, I don’t know what is. (The little darling cannot help it that he is not Sierra.) OK, here are some of the other things in the show. Quilts, clothing, baskets, jewelry, fiber sculpture. I don’t see how you can go wrong.
On Sunday, of course, most of this part of Antrim County will pile into a caravan of trucks and vans and head over to Greilickville for the benefit for Louan Lechler. Pineapple casserole, check. Best singing voice. Oh well. Good attitude-check! Think Pink. See you there.

The first year I saw Pumpkisaurus I had to turn around and go back to be sure I’d seen what I thought I’d seen. Then I laughed so hard I almost forgot to buy pie. Almost.

Oh, man, can you even BELIEVE this weather? I mean, holy cow! Every day just makes me greedier for more, more, MORE!
Our side of the Bay is very fiber-y, too, this weekend. In fact, I switched my bookstore event from tonight (Friday) to tomorrow (Saturday) so as not to conflict with the opening reception of the Fiber Fest in Leland.
Isn’t this just the HAPPIEST month? Or am I a tiny bit HYPER???

Yes, yes, and again yes.
I believe in the splendor of October, and rely upon it.
It is the happiest month.
You are a tiny bit hyper. Me too!
I am pondering the scene at Dog Ears this evening as Dean Robb signs the biography his son wrote, and a line of graying Movement People files past, book in one hand, excellent treats in the other. If, forty years ago, someone had shown us this picture, we would have had no idea what to make of it. I still have no idea what to make of it, but I’m sure it is fodder for a post!

Indeed, it is beginning to look a lot like autumn in Michigan. Oh, that Pumpkisaurus and Goatkiss are way cute! Your neck of the woods sure does have a lot of neat things going on. 🙂
