Earlier this week Betsy King issued an invitation to all her friends and neighbors to come by the farm market for a complimentary piece of pie.  Then Patty Hill repeated the invitation on the Orchard Talk blog.  I figured the place would be mobbed, but it would be worth it.  I have had Rose’s pie.  Besides, I needed to send off a package or two of excellent treats.  It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood, and is there a more beautiful thing than a sign offering Free Pie Today?  There is not.  I pulled in.

By the time I managed to get over there, the crowds were gone, but “crowds” Up North in February are measured in ones and twos, not thousands, and there was plenty of pie left, along with delicious tastings of Balaton and Montmorency cherries. There was also Betsy, who pretty much brightens up the day no matter what’s up.

I believe there might be more pie left, and Betsy is thinking about opening the market on Saturday to give more people a chance to have some.  You might take a little drive out M-88 and look for the sign.

John and Betsy will not be at the market on Monday, though. Their son Michael will be competing in the state ski championship and they will be cheering him on.  I’m betting on Michael to do very, very well on Monday. After all, he was raised on cherries.  The whole King clan will be back on Tuesday, and all next week you can find some good deals on cherry products over there, this being National Cherry Month and all.  Eat up everybody.
