This morning’s mail brought a Letter from Katherine: This is Sierra. She is a minature donkey who currently resides at Katy Newman’s farm. I believe she has the cutest face of (almost) anyone I’ve ever done a portrait of.
All together now, Awwwwwwww! Even the curmudgeons amongst us must surely melt in the face of that face. Who knew little donkeys could smile? Especially in these parlous times? Something for elephants to ponder as the days grow longer and brighter.
[Note to friends from Away whose first language is not English and who are searching their wordbooks in vain: parlous=perilous, bright and smiling donkeys are the symbol of the Democratic Party, and ponderous, wrinkled, gray elephants are the symbol of The Other Guys.]
There are more pictures of Sierra on Jill McLaughlin has a ranch . . . They are not nearly so good as Katherine’s portrait, but they will show you just how tiny the little sweetheart is.

Warm, fuzzy, cute, sweet, soft, precious, cushy, gentle, angelic, cherubic, and downright pretty. Wonderful portrait. I truly love this photo.

That is the sweetest wee face I’ve ever seen on a donkey – and I do like donkeys. They always seem so stoical.

What an adorable little girl in her bright, snazzy halter…..I did my ‘awwwww’ right on cue, too!

Katherine, I believe you’ve hit a home run with this one. All of us are besotted with Sierra.
I’m glad of it, too, as certain individuals who shall be nameless have suggested that I might be a tad sentimental over animals. It is good to have my response to this portrait ratified by tough-minded readers like you, Preston, Fee and Cindy Lou.

Gerry, Who would think (for even a moment) that YOU (of all people) were sentimental over animals? I can NOT imagine where they possibly get THAT idea. I need my sarcasm smiley here….

You would be surprised at the number of people who have come to that conclusion.
Wait, wait – there’s a sarcastic smiley? Really? Cool! (Do we still say cool?)

What a baby doll! Thanks Kath! I can just see this girlie with an apple! My little guy has more of a “devilish twinkle”! But he’s “good” long enough to get his snacks. They are so wonderfully furry right now…but they are always very smart, clever…Barley will go to the goats stalls and let each one out and then they “party”!

By which we see the error of underestimating the short and sweet . . . I had no idea miniature donkeys could be so entertaining. If it weren’t that I’m already fully occupied keeping up with the Disreputable Duo and Miss Puss, I would have to consider a pair of these, yes indeed.

What a cute picture!! How can Maia (age 5) and I get a copy? Who needs “out of state or country” cute and fuzzy animal pictures when we have a local celebrity?
Great shot, Katherine!

Andrea, I’m glad you and Maia enjoyed seeing Sierra. I’ll email Katherine about the copy question. I’m positive something can be arranged.

May I echo what Preston has said?
What a “Warm, fuzzy, cute, sweet, soft, precious, cushy, gentle, angelic, cherubic, and downright pretty” little Donkey!
I so wish I could snuggle with her. She is truly adorable.

She is, isn’t she! Also a bit of a mischief.
