This morning we headed out to retrieve the paper and met Mama Nature in full hissy fit mode. There was hissy fit on my car. From the sound of it she was raising what-for down on the beach, too. The trees that shelter the Writing Studio and Bait Shop were bending and twisting and shedding twigs. One of them must have shed a tiny little nest, because there it was on the driveway. I gave it a full inspection, furthering my thinking about the Environmental Art class Katherine and I are attending, about which more later. Finally I tucked the nest away at the base of a tree and headed indoors. Maybe it will be recycled for another home. Maybe just return to the earth. So many lives going on around us.

Oh dear, tenants evicted by the wind, Nature can be cruel can’t it? The cycle of life is not without it’s hazards and false starts.. poor birdies they will have to start again.

Mama Nature is like an adolescent: it’s all about me! Me! Me! Except, of course, in her case it is all about her, which renders her perfectly insufferable sometimes.

We have two Robins nest’s that get recycled every year. In the fall, the Bluebirds take over when the Robins leave. Fun to wait for the next tenant.

I did not know that bluebirds would use a robin’s nest. Sounds like a couple of congregations sharing the same church building, doesn’t it! Maybe a mouse will use the nest building materials I tucked up against the tree. Or maybe the long-suffering birdies will fly down and carry the supplies back up in the tree and start all over again. I have to be more observant.

Mama Nature is moaning, groaning, howling, and shrieking here today. She’s blown down a tumble of trees near the edge of the woods. I keep expecting her to lift the roof off any minute now.
Poor birdies. We lost a nest of baby doves this week. I’m not sure if the wind knocked the babies out of the tree or if it was the precariousness of the nest itself (which never did look too stable).

The wind has been Sumpin’ Else. At least the green sky the other day didn’t turn into a tornado.
I don’t know if there were baby birds in that nest or not. It might have been last year’s . . . although it had a fresh sort of look about it. Last year the baby robins in the nest on the garage died. I have no idea whether they fell or were pushed or what happened, but there they were, broken little bodies on the ground. It’s a hard life no matter what species you are.

Oh dear dear dear! Really hope this hissy doesn’t last long!
