I know you feel sorry for yourself because you missed the picnic over at the Knowles House. Well, some of you missed it. Katy was there, and Loon Ranger Arleen Westhoven, and Linda Gallagher, the editor of the Antrim Review, and Mike Berst, as advertised, and numerous Dawsons and Bachmanns and leventy-umpteen other people whose names I do not know because it was, after all, in Central Lake, and I am from Eastport, and that is a whole ‘nother post altogether. I ambushed all the descendants of Civil War vets anyway, and hope to add a couple of photos to the stash for The Book. I digress. I felt sorry for you, too, although I did eat your strawberry shortcake. Here are some pictures that should help you feel as if you were really there.
You probably observed that the siding on the shed is in bad need of a scraping and painting. That is why CLAHS was having a fund raiser. That, and it was time to have a community picnic. It’s been really nice for almost a week now. Picnic while you can, that’s our motto.
I’ll see you over at Barnes Park tomorrow then, right? Petoskey Stone Festival. Be there or be square, Daddy, and save an elephant ear for me.

Gerry, I’m square! Don’t hold it against me! I’m so glad for everyone that today is a perfect day for the Petoskey Stone Festival in Barnes Park and for Cars in the Park here in Northport. Sarah and I didn’t even get down to Marina Park for the Blessing of the Pets this morning, though I’m not complaining about having customers in the bookstore. That’s always a good thing.
Strawberry shortcake? Did you really eat some for me? Was it as delicious as the picture looks? I’m sure it was.
Wishing you a beautiful day–
Pamela

It was a wonderful day, and in a way you were here. Mary Collins had a booth at the Petoskey Stone Festival, and sold me quantities of fine, polished stones drilled for stringing or anything else my little heart desires. She says she’s excited about opening her Uptown gallery in the old Dog Ears space. Another reason to go to Northport. Of course I asked her if she knew you and of course she said she did, and that you are a dear person, or something to that effect. So there you go. And here you were, in Barnes Park, if only in pleasant conversation.
Sarah has already been blessed, as have you, by each other’s companionship, so I expect no harm was done by missing the festivities this morning. I’m glad there were customers. May their tribe increase.
As for the strawberry shortcake, I did and it was. Your wish came true, and I send it back to you for this lovely evening. What a good beginning to the Summer Season!

Thanx for eating shortcake for us….will you have an elephant ear for us, too? Yes? Horray! 🙂

I did not have an elephant ear–but I did try a deep-fried dill pickle. Still working on the posts from the Festival.
