Back when I had television and conventional weekends, I enjoyed watching CBS Sunday Morning. I especially loved the segment at the end, the quiet video essay that took us somewhere out on the land and let the birdsong and windrustle and shadowplay tell the story.
There’s nothing here you haven’t seen before—except maybe the ladybug hitching a ride on a feather, you don’t see that every day—but isn’t it good to welcome it all back again for another May? These were taken earlier this week before the little camera gave up. I was having a good time experimenting with settings and the dogs were having a good time bouncing around the beach. Glad you could come with us.

Oh, I well remember having fun blowing the seed heads off dandelions (and the abject horror on my dad’s face if any headed for his precious flower beds!).
Dedicated gardener that he was, he also conceded that weeds were simply plants that had learned how to grow everywhere except in a nice, neat row.
I wish we had a beach that close.

Ah, yes, dandelions, the despair of gardeners, the delight of children. I’ve been reading Aldo Leopold, who thinks of weeds as either soil-building members of the prairie community or opportunists who fill the vacuum created by reckless use of the land. Whew. Long sentence. Leopold writes better. Thinks better, too. Probably related. He probably finished his coffee and I just started mine.
I think I’ll digress to the beach. It is one of my favorite features of Torch Lake Township.

These are all very nice photos, and your slide show enjoyable to watch, a very good idea. Thank you for explaining how to do (at the other post), maybe I will try to make one, too. The Dandelion is exactly the same as I have in my garden, – I think I have two different types. Perhaps one of them just try to simulate, I´m not sure. The rabbit doesn´t care, any kind of Dandelion is like candy to him.

Thank you. I am getting a little too fond of the slideshow and think I must save it for special occasions. I can hardly WAIT to see what you do with the feature!
I love the indiscriminate rabbit. Bring on the spring greens! It would be interesting to see your two types of dandelions.

These are wonderful shots….. peaceful. And I really like the feather with the ladybug. Enjoyable slideshow. 🙂

Thank you. I enjoyed the ladybug, too, just sailing along on the feather as if it were a surfboard and the ladybug an echo of Gidget.

Gee, I posted a picture of a lady bug at the beach this week too! What are the chances of that?
And there seems to be a “dandelion party” going on around the blogosphere (at least among some readers of Scott’s blog) this week that I’ve missed out on, LOL!

I think the chances are very good. It’s the season for both, and who are we to assume that ladybugs don’t enjoy a day at the beach? Now I have to go see what all Scott’s other fans have been up to. ‘Tis the season for dandy lions, too. I’m just sorry I missed the chance to learn to make dandelion wine. Next year for sure.

I don’t know, Gerry…these pictures looked pretty special to me! Perhaps you could choose music to go with your show?!? That’d be very cool – and fun to see what you’d come up with 🙂

I need a walk on the beach. Maybe the long weekend coming up will afford me some time to do so. Lovely photos, Gerry. Sorry to hear about your camera. 😦

I’m glad you liked the photos! They were much better than they would have been if I hadn’t been experimenting with settings. I hope you get a good walk on the beach. Time is precious, isn’t it?
Thank you for the condolences. I’m going to miss the little guy. But there will be a replacement soon.
