Early in the morning the shore is peaceful, the sky already bright blue and full of shining white clouds. Miss Sadie, the Cowboy and I head off on our walk. Something new is out there in the water. Must investigate.
It’s – there are two! Two stone castles rise from the depths of Grand Traverse Bay.
The beach is littered with sand castles, some elaborate, others minimalist – but stone castles . . . They’re magical. Clearly the spirit of Gaudi was here, piling Petoskey stones and granite into the sky. I’m enchanted.

I do love Goldsworthy! Thank you for that link. Here are two more:

Photos on Morning Earth
What I love best is exactly that he creates ephemeral works from “found” natural materials – and that he values the vivid gash of a single, glowing red maple in a sea of deep green evergreens.

Thanks, Katy. Kudos to Mrs. Uhdd for the Goldsworthy lead – now I want to go make leaf patterns on the beach.
