Many people Around Here look forward to the weekly Michigan Picture from Babs. Except in February. We do not look forward to the picture in February. This week she wrote:
It’s probably obvious that Miss Sadie, the Cowboy and I are not in Key West. We did, however, go to the beach. It was the first time in weeks we’d been down there (although I suspect Miss Sadie of some unauthorized visits).

Yes! First legal beach visit in weeks!
The lunar landscape was fairly impressive.

Ooh, look at that . . .

And that . . .
I am so distractible. Miss Sadie and the Cowboy are so opportunistic. Where . . . ??

Here we are. Hello. We’re out here.
Way out there on rotten ice. I demanded they get right back here. They didn’t budge.

[You explain it to her. No, you. You’re the one who went right when I told you to go left.]
They were not being mulish. They were trapped.

If we had opposable thumbs we wouldn’t be in this fix.
I gave it some thought and decided to rescue them. Spoiler alert: I did not fall through the rotten ice and drown. Instead I went off to Traverse City with Louan on an adventure involving a Raven, a Fat Black Pussycat and a Moose. But that’s a post for another time.

Glad your adventure didn’t result in extreme wetness. Your photos are great! Palms are overrated.

Thank you. We attempt to avoid extreme wetness. We often fail.

Seems scary that rotten ice. Glad all ended well.

Not as scary as I am when I get extremely wet in February. Miss Sadie and the Cowboy are very glad that all ended well, and that in spite of everything, they had a good supper.

Jeez! Bad dogs! That photo put my stomach in knots. Life jackets are in order for next time!
Well, I’ll be on my way to AZ by the time our blizzard and accumulation hits. Another relo recon. Too bad I’m not posting photos anymore, but I’m not going back to the blogging world. My upcoming employment is 7 days a week and that will keep me content and contained for the season.

Martha, you could always send a Guest Photo to TLV. But not of Arizona unless it should happen to get a blizzard.

Miss Sadie doesn’t look one bit happy about her predicament.

I don’t know what irritated her more. That she was trapped, that it was the Cowboy’s fault, or that it was her own darned fault.

You are very brave. That did not look at all appetising.

Sort of curdled, isn’t it. I’ll have to take more pictures the next time we get a fresh snowfall. It looks better then. Good grief–what am I saying???

Maybe nice clear blue water would be the thing to wish for.

I did a swan dive into an empty boat slip one January. There were extenuating circumstances, but it mostly was that I’d only been varnishing for six months and still had things to learn about being around boats. Of course it was cold, and I was weighted down with clothing. I got onto a boat’s swim platform, and eventually a kid came toodling down the dock. He peered down at me and said, “What are your doing?” I said, “Waiting for you.” He unlocked the stern door so I could get into the boat and back onto the dock. Then, I drove home, stripped off in the shower, and all was well. I’ve only fallen in once since.
Don’t fall in. You will look sadder than Miss Sadie, and cause consternation to the Cowboy. I’m sure of it.

You know, it’s astonishing to think of all the ways a person can damage valuable body parts. I promise not to fall in. You too.

Whew! I’m glad that little escapade had a happy ending. I hope you have a cell phone to carry on your outings. I have some little knowledge of Fat Black Cats, there being one on the premises. Bullwinkle, however, is about as moosey as I get.

I have a cell phone. Remembering to keep it charged is a challenge. Remembering to put it in my pocket when we go adventuring is another. Finding a signal is another. On balance I think I might be better off carrying emergency flares.

I’d rather be in the icy north than in a state that allows “open carry guns”. lol
Love your pics today and the “wish we had opposable thumbs” shot.
Has your Winter been as unseasonably warm as ours in Nova Scotia ?
Gerry
March 1, 2016
Our winter has been all over the place. No snow at all that I can recall until January. Plenty of cold days but the Bay never froze over, nor did Torch Lake. Nothing like the last couple of years, but not my favorite winter.
I’m glad you liked the pictures. Miss Sadie just hates to have her picture taken, especially when I’m laughing at her.

Oh, poor babies! But I’ll bet they had some sweet dreams, reliving their adventure. And yes, glad you did not fall in when going to their rescue, Gerry! A friend fell in last week up at Christmas Cove and stopped on his way home — very briefly! — to exhibit his wet clothing. Brrrrrrrrrr! That wind is still FIERCE!

I really was worried about getting soaked in icy water. The Duo have no concept of cause and effect . . .

Ach! These pictures remind me of the time Cinnamon plunged through the ice of the little creek in Canterbury Commons–as scary as if it had been Lake Michigan.

All unexpected plunges into icy water are scary. Poor Cinnamon. Poor Craig! (Did you ever hear the story of Happy leaping off the balcony in Los Angeles? Scotties are single-minded. He was lucky, and bounced gently from pine bough to pine bough all the way to the ground–two stories below.)
