Babs was out and about during a warmish bit last Monday, after it had rained.  She wrote:  It is our fondest hope that one day soon these cherry trees will be filled with blossoms, but not this week. Indeed.

The rest of the week featured snow, sleet, slush, more rain, ice–all of it landing on us like the biblical plagues on Egypt. Early Friday morning Miss Sadie, the Cowboy and I went out for the newspaper and a bit of ice skating. The mailbox was frozen shut, the car doors were frozen shut, and the trees clicked and pinged gently in the breeze as if they were made of glass.

On Saturday, for variety, Mama Nature left us some new snow on the deck–very dry snow, fluffy as can be. Upon close inspection, we could see the individual flakes.

We are all longing for real spring. We will have to wait a bit, but there are signs of hope. Over at Verdant Ground every window is full of tiny tomato plants and pepper plants and onions, all of them started from seed and coming along nicely. All we need is a week of sunshine . . .
