Late last night it began . . . sort of. But the Cowboy was pacing in circles. Was this all there was?
It was worrying. Finally we gave up watching and went to bed. We read a storybook. We overslept. But we awoke to a proper January morning.
We can all relax now. It has snowed in January. Miss Sadie, the Cowboy and I celebrated by going for a nice walk. Since it was almost 9 before we got ourselves out there, the road had been plowed and our newspaper had been delivered.
I’ve dilly-dallied so long getting this post up that Dale Reedy has been here in the sturdy teal truck and plowed the driveway. Our world has righted itself for the moment. Of course I haven’t read the paper yet. And it’s started snowing again.

Lovely post. Reminds me of my childhood in Nova Scotia, where I’m heading back to live this year! Meanwhile, not a flurry here in the UK

Well, if memory serves, you had more than your share in the UK last year. Still, it’s unsettling, isn’t it? Sybil says Nova Scotia is (at last) well snowed for the moment, so that’s all right then.

Yes. And nothing at all like the Bay Area, but who’s jealous anyway . . . not me, certainly. OK, maybe just a little bit.

We are not so lovely here. Wind still roaring and that’s always so tiresome. Winter walk out of the question for now.

I know what you mean about the wind. It’s more wearing on the nerves than the snow and the cold combined. It’s a little blowy here, and it’s snowing again, but we’re content. Dale Reedy is probably feeling pretty smug about now. He loves it when he gets to plow me out twice in one day.

Glad you finally got your snow. It certainly is beautiful out there 🙂

It is, isn’t it? We’re getting some more, too–the fluffy kind. Much nicer all the way around.

We got cold crisp and brilliantly bright today, just what the Dr ordered. Glad you got your snow, it makes the scheme of things seem right…

Thank you. I’m glad someone understands how out of kilter the world can seem if I am denied the opportunity to curse the snow. Astonishing how much more fun winter is when the sun’s out, isn’t it!

The view of the lake is lovely in a winter sort of way. Sadie and Cowboy give the shot personality. Our dusting (and my headache, thank goodness!) is gone.

Thank you. I am glad to hear that your headache is gone with the dusting. Hmm. Maybe Mama Nature has a little ditty too: “This is the day we dust with snow, dust with snow, dust with snow . . . “

Glad you’ve got your snow and lovely photos of it Gerry.
Our snow ? Ha! Almost all gone. Up to 10 C here today. Crazy weather. Lots of fog. That should make Lynne feel quite at home.

Wait, wait – are you having an election too?

Beautiful snow, beautiful photos. I’m so glad you got your snow – but curious. Does the lake ever freeze, or is it too big, or whatever? Is ice fishing a big deal there?
I haven’t thought in ages about how bright the snow can be in sunlight,or full moonlight. That’s beautiful, too.

In very cold winters Grand Traverse Bay has been known to ice in down at its southern (shallow) end, but the last time Lake Michigan froze all the way across hunters chased woolly mammoths across the snowy surface. The inland lakes, though, freeze pretty regularly, and yes, ice fishing is a big deal here. See, for example, Fish Story. It will hook you.

Pretty snow to look at…from the sofa. Sometimes from cross country trails. Or with a dog on a romp. Not pretty when commuting to work. Sigh.

True dat. Although . . . most of the time the winter commute to Traverse City was pretty to look at, too. There are some very nice features of Life Up North. (P.S. Financial security is not one of them.)

Always good to come across a happy person. You can have all our snow too if you want. I would be quite happy not to have any this year.

We had all your snow last year and the year before that and . . . I digress. What with snowdrops in bloom and green fields everywhere you seem to be in Spring. It looks very nice. All that and jam too.

After our awfully white winters of the last couple of years, it hasn’t felt like a ‘proper’ winter this year. Instead of the snow we’ve had the pesky wind (our top speed, locally, was 102mph, which is pretty impressive, I suppose, in its own way) which just keeps me awake at nights. On balance, I’d rather bung on my wellies and walk through snow than battle against the wind all the way to work. Never happy!
Gerry

I suppose people can get used to anything, but wind at that speed isn’t wind, it’s a hurricane. That you can stand up at all is a testament to the general feistiness of Scots.

That curve of your road is beautiful with snow, Gerry. The world does look more the way it’s supposed to look. Sarah is of the same opinion as the Cowboy!

Oh my! Look at that snow! I don’t remember what snow looks like because we haven’t had true snow. Just a mere dusting recently. It has been unseasonably warm and snowless here. By the way, I just love that top, left corner photo of the barn with moon above— a perfect winter photo and my kind!

I’m going out on a limb here, but I’m guessing your feelings about the snow are . . . ambiguous. Until Thursday night we didn’t have any either. Now we’re back to normal. I’m glad to see the snow. I even enjoy the nice brisk air. But I sure do miss running around with no coat on, feeling smug about how long that tank of propane out there was going to last.
I am so glad to hear that you like the barn photo. You are the only person to mention it. I like it very much myself. It might stay there for awhile.

Beautiful snow. Ours didn’t to amount to quite as much and won’t be here long (rain expected tomorrow), but it was nice to see it.

It is definitely too cold here for rain–a the moment.
Mama Nature has her little ways.
I’m glad you enjoyed pictures of our snow. The snowbirds seem to enjoy them too. Then they send me pictures of themselves on the beach. Rascals.
