From mousehole to mousehole a highway they made And carried the bounty that Nature had made From mousehole to mousehole they carried all day And as evening fell softly they had this to say We need just a little–this crumb is just right Merry Christmas to all, and to all, a good nightPosted in: Adventures outdoors, Holidays in Torch Lake Township

Thank you, Tammy. The mousetracks were a gift. Seemed only right to share it!

Christmas morning is all about the patter of little feet. These are really little feet. They were very busy.

I got the biggest kick out of the path between the two mouseholes. I can imagine a whole story of mouse caroling and mouse cookie exchanges. It’s good to have congenial neighbors.

Lovely slideshow – but I do hope Miss Puss never catches sight of the little neighbours!

Hello, Fee! Merry Christmas to you. Puss is less and less interested in venturing out these days. She is getting to be an old kitty. Although there is occasionally a flash of fire in those green, green eyes . . .
The mouseholes are just off the path through the woods behind the Writing Studio and Bait Shop. I think Puss does not go back there much, even when she is feeling adventuresome. She likes the woodpile, and the mosquito nursery out by the road, and the path to the beach. The owls of course are another story, and the fox. The mice had best be wary.

Why thank you, Mrs. Uhdd, and the same to you and yours! We have holiday sausages broiling, and Miss Sadie and the Cowboy are fairly certain they are going to have some. They are right. They have been very, very good for at least an hour now. Such goodness should be rewarded.

Thank you, Kathy. I’m pretty sure the poem is doggerel, but around here that makes perfect sense!

Lazy late holiday greetings from our side of the Bay to yours, Gerry. I’m waiting patiently for the slide show to load up. Want to see those mouse tracks. ……….. Worth waiting for!!! What volumes they speak! Merry Christmas to every living thing!

Indeed. Even to the large two-footed creatures!

Merry merry Christmas Gerry. Am I late? I have been Merry Christmas’ing all over and many times. Now I reached your blog too. Although there is a long way to Torch Lake from here, it is not too far for sending thoughts. I’d like to send a couple. The first contains my best wishes for you and your nearest. May you have a lot of joy for the coming year. The second you will have to forward to Louan. Just to let her know that your writing has triggered long time wishes for her health.
Merry Christmas!

Never too late for good wishes, and we thank you for them. The Cowboy in particular is in need of them, as he has been up to something and I’m sure I will be annoyed as soon as I find out what.
As it happens, I had dinner at Pearl’s tonight with Louan. She’s doing very well–still has a way to go of course, but feeling feisty.
When we got to the restaurant there was a little sign announcing the availability of WiFi. The next time we go there I will bring the netbook and we will live blog from dinner. That will be a good thing, as it will keep me from eating dessert, which I should not have done tonight. The Nisser made me do it.
Merry Christmas, Carsten!

Them Nisser!!
Thanks for the good news.
Maybe I should post more slideshows and larger images then…
I’m curious, did you have reason for getting annoyed??
Gerry
December 28, 2010
I probably have reason for annoyance, but I have not yet stumbled on the evidence. This is probably just as well.

Your version of a Visit from Saint Nicholas is adorable – but I must say those look a lot like bunny tracks to me!
Gerry
December 26, 2010
They do look exactly like bunny tracks . . . except that they’re teeny tiny tracks. I should have put a penny in the snow for scale! That little trail between the mouseholes is only about 1-1/2 inches wide. Mouse tracks. Or Nisser.

Delightful images of a snowy macrocosm. Hope you had a Merry Christmas, Gerry. Mine was spent between home, my Dad’s and my sister’s. All very enjoyable. Many good wishes for the New Year and much gratefulness for the happy moments spent reading you.

I suspected you might like the mouse tracks. Very best wishes to you and the velvety Nino, too.

How sweet Gerry. I imagine they have a little tree in there decorated with the tiniest bits of foil and glitter. Beautiful poem.

I imagine them all tucked in under a spaniel down comforter. Amy, is it possible we do not get out enough?

A spaniel down comforter sounds as cosy as it gets. It’s not whether or not we get out enough but rather how content we are with the little things and the familiar in our surroundings.
