We are heading into the part of the year that is not especially picturesque in Torch Lake Township. Generally speaking, late November and early December are really good times to look indoors for visual delight. Or rummage around in the memory banks for something pretty. Here, stored up like acorns, are some of my favorite images from the lovely autumn we had.
The Muppet in the chestnut orchard.
The rosy mushrooms.
The full moon rising over a cornfield.
The end-of-harvest Providence Farm potluck.
The Big Blow: Katherine’s capture of a stormy Torch Lake.
The Big Show: Leaves ablaze at Bay View Centennial Farm.
The pot roast.
The Bay in autumn.
October light. Babs Young at her eloquent best.
All together, they’re a Torch Lake answer to Scott Thomas, who asked what autumn was like in this neck of the woods. It was good, Scott.

What a feast for the eyes, Gerry! I kept scrolling up and down, trying to decide what made me smile the most. It may have been the pot roast, but that’s probably because dinner time it approaching, and I have homemade chicken soup simmering on the stove. The chestnut! The mushrooms! The MOON! Well, I could go on, but why repeat your whole list? Thank you for this happy potluck picture post!
–Wait, wait! I do love that chestnut. I’m voting for the chestnut.

It is hard to choose favorites, which is why I do too much of a lot of things. Too bad I don’t have some favorite household chores. Wonder if I could con myself into thinking that way . . .
And thank you–glad they weren’t boring the second time around!

Gerry, very beautiful collection of pictures, the full moon is my favorite and I see that the pot roast even have an autumn theme to it. 🙂

Thank you, Nye. I was very taken with the moon that evening myself. And I’m pretty sure pot roast is the official autumn food, sort of like grilled burgers in summer. But then my mind runs to food in every season.

I love the scarlet leaves against the old weathered barn the best, though the stormy lake is a close second. Your photos tell a story of fall, right down to the comfort food!

Thank you Barb. I would never leave out the comfort food . . .

I definately can´t agree about Torch lake Township not being especially picturesque at the moment. These photos are so inviting and pleasant to look at, and you have found images that speak to almost every one of our senses. Very nice looking autumn you are having.
Why are you so early with your participating this time? Perhaps I should try to find out how that feels…

Thank you Birgitte, but you see, all of these pictures were taken in October when we were at our most picturesque. By now we are ‘leventy shades of gray. That’s partly why I decided to go ahead and do the post now. I reasoned that if I waited any longer there’d probably be snow on the ground and everyonen from Around Here would wonder what the heck I was up to.
I look forward to seeing what your autumn has been like! I expect I can wait until next week though . . .

Thank you! I was aiming for popular ones. Popular ones that I liked too.

This is a great assortment of the season! You have a wonderfully unique view of the world, and I’m guessing of life as well.

Don’t we all, don’t we all. Mainly I have the luxury of following my curiosity where it leads me without having to be home in time to make dinner! (So long, that is, as I keep a couple of dog biscuits about my person.)

All are wonderful images and wonderful featured together. I really like the The Big Show photo of the aged barn and bright tree. That pot roast… yummy and comfort food!

Thank you Anna. I had a good time looking through the October archive. Might have to make another pot roast.

Nice photos, Gerry. You so captured autumn in Upper Peninsula. That “special” time of year. I just flew into Detroit a couple of hours ago and blinked to see the straw and brown colors of the autumn fields. What? Where is the green? The vibrancy? We must slow down and see what exists in the muted shades and shadows. I suspect we will not be disappointed.

Thank you, Kathy. It turns out that what appears in the muted shades and shadows is fairly challenging.

Fabulous autumnal moments, Gerry ! They are all favourites, each for their own mood, shades and composition. Fall is beautiful up there. Maybe some are favourites amongst my favourites… those chairs on the beach, in front of a stormy sky, I could imagine sitting there eating warm roasted chestnuts 😉 Thanks for these great pictures.

Thank you Isa. October is my very favorite month, followed closely by September.
Katherine Berst sent me that gorgeous view of the storm over Torch, and I love it. The best part of writing Torch Lake Views is opening the excellent presents that come in my email. Photos from Katherine and Babs, comments from all over, interesting leads that come through the “Contact Us” connection. Satisfactory.

I, of course, like the pot roast photo! Nothing like a good pot roast on a chilly fall night. And the light in the last photo is remarkable.

Thanks Jennifer! I’m a big fan of comfort food this time of year. Also of Babs’s photos–another kind of comfort.

What a nice mix of natural and human interaction with the time of year. As we turn the corner into the winter. Thank you, Gerry, for this contribution to my blog’s assignment on Autumn!

Fine and interesting impressions from autumn around your area. My favorite is the picture of stormy Torch Lake: The composition, the light and the sky here is great!

Thanks, Michaela. I’m fond of the muppet too. Now I have to go over to Scott’s recap and see what else is posted.
