October is the best thing that ever happens to me, which is saying quite a lot. I’ll probably change my mind in a minute because really I can think of half a dozen even better things but it’s a close contest.
My mother loved everything about living in California except its lack of a real autumn. Send me some fall leaves, she would say. Red ones!
I’m pretty sure all of these were taken on Saturday. (Yes, I saw two sunsets on Saturday–one at shore level and the next from the top of the second hill beyond Eastport. It was worth the trip.) The fine fall weekend continued on Sunday with the benefit for Louan. I’ll show you that tomorrow.

It’s getting cool in our area, but the leaves are still green. Absolutely love your sunset shots, and can’t wait for our leaves to change colors.

Thank you Nye! I think it’s the best time of the year. Still warm enough to bathe the Cowboy out on the deck, but cool enough that whatever he rolled in doesn’t smell truly awful.

Yep, leaves are turning here, too. Time to start brbing the youngest to rake up the fallen leaves currently coating the grass. We always leave a pile behind the shed, so as to offer a hibernation-home for the local hedgehog population.
It’s a fine autumn day at the moment, with the laundry waving gently in the breeze. Probably too cool (10C) to properly dry the towels, but hey, I’m a tryer!

I am charmed at the idea of making a cozy hedgehog home. I am even more charmed at the idea of having a youngest to bribe to do chores. I should have had more children. Rob the Firefighter is entirely wise to all my strategems.
I hope the towels dry to fluffy perfection and the leaves put on a proper show before the last of them become hedgehog housing. This is the best time of the year.

How gorgeous! Love the old barn and bright, on fire tree beside it.
Only a few lone trees have truly turned autumn colors. A lot of trees have crisp, spotted leaves and dropping. I don’t know if this autumn will be colorful.

Thank you, Anna. That barn was one of my favorites, too.
Every autumn is different, but even the duller ones look like old gold to me. I love the season in all its guises. We still have several weeks of Splendor Potential. Who knows what they’ll bring?

Gerry, I have loved slide shows my whole life, and yours are no exception. I especially like that almost horizontal tree. Do you know the one I mean? It’s standing upright (of course), but the crown has a cloud shape. Well, I know you will figure this out.

I know the one you mean! Thank you. It seems like a very old tree, and it’s right across the road from Bayview Cemetery, the tiny patch of ground where some of my Civil War veterans are buried. I like to think that tree was there when Dan Blakely homesteaded the land, when he and Mary buried infant Charles there, when they gave the spot to the community for its cemetery. It’s a venerable tree, and it is crowned in a cloud of glory.

Oh, lovely!! My favorite is – except for the fact that all of them are favorites – is the one with the red tree and the gray barn/ small wooden house. I expect to see a lot more of these Torch Lake trees, it is most inspiring.

Thank you, Birgitte. I love the autumn show. Part of its charm is that we never know when it will happen, or how much of it there will be. With any luck there will be a little more inspiration coming!

One of my favorite slide shows yet, Miss Gerry! Horray for fall and glorious days!
