I am astonished. Babs has produced her annual Sunflower Image and there is not a Triffid² in sight. Just an innocent field of sunflowers, receding into the distance by the barn. The Barn. What is going on in that barn????
Triffid breeding, I’m sure of it. Here are your footnotes:
¹Theremin
²Day of the Triffids
Update: It has come to my attention that I should have included links to the other Annual Sunflower Images, so here they are:
- 2008: You knew there’d be a sunflower . . .
- 2009-August: Secret lives of sunflowers
- 2009-October: Now the sunflowers are talking to Babs
Every week photographer Babs Young captures moments in northern Michigan, and every week she sends one to Torch Lake Views just for you. You can find more of her photos at the Babs Young Photo Archives and on her Blue Heaven Flickr photostream.

A perfect post for a rainy Monday morning…I am listening now to Clara Lockmore play Saint-Saens’ ” The Swan ” on the theremin (I recommend the video/audio highly) and will hurry off to the library to snatch a copy of Day of the Triffids and perhaps a video for tonight…Katy

Your day is shaping up quite nicely. I should have included links to the earlier sunflower images posted by Babs. In fact, I’m going to go add them now. They will make a fine accompaniment to your reading.

Also how do you make foreign accent signs on the computer keyboard?

Depends on the keyboard, the software you’re using, and the way you have your particular computer set up.

I went back and read the other entries you listed here. I became so interested that I’ve ordered a copy of Day of the Triffids to read on vacation!

I’ll probably remain confused, but I love that sunflower image.

Oh dear. I do not mean to be obscure, really I don’t. It’s just that it’s a little running joke. If you look at the 2008 Sunflower post, all will become clear. Pretty much. I think. Maybe not. In which case I will take you out for coffee in Northport or at Chris and Sonny’s and tell you all about it over the appropriate Excellent Treats.

Beautiful photograph by Babs.
How I hated having to read ‘Day of the Triffids’ in grade 9. Though I like science fiction, it just didn’t resonate with me. But that was many years ago. Maybe I’d enjoy it more now but it’s probably best to leave well enough alone and not be creeped out by sunflowers for the rest of my days.

Soooo . . . you probably don’t want to read “Children of the Corn” either . . .
