Babs Young grew up coming to the family cottage on Torch Lake. Every year she spent the summer with other children whose families had cottages here, too. When a resort has that kind of history, the neighbors are like family. You will understand, then, that this Fourth of July has been bittersweet for her. Last night she wrote, all of Blue Heaven came together for a potluck picnic. Part of this was in honor of long time Blue Heaven residents Jim and Marilyn Elliot who both passed away this year in Florida. I think this may the beginning of a new Blue Heaven tradition. It’s 10:45 and as I look outside there are not many who are not setting off fireworks tonight. So if fireworks are your thing this is a great place to be.
Babs, you must have climbed up on the roof to get that perspective! Or perhaps been lifted aloft by some of those hardworking gulls?
Every week photographer Babs Young captures moments in northern Michigan, and every week she sends one to Torch Lake Views just for you. You can find more of her photos at the Babs Young Photo Archives and on her Blue Heaven Flickr photostream.

All part of our plan. Come to Torch Lake . . . Come to Torch Lake . . .

Ahh, Gerry, as I said… *I* am not the problem. In three years, from my perspective, nothing is tying me here…. 🙂 BTW, I’m working in earnest on Torch Lake Days now. My plan is to have something publishable by early January.

I have every confidence that you will succeed. My Civil War veterans are saying, “See, see? Beth is going to get her book done by January! When are you going to get our stories told anyway, Gerry? Huh? Huh?” I swear they are more trouble than two year olds and spaniels put together.

Gerry, I sense an accountability pact forming. You must write “x” amount of words each week (not necessarily GOOD ones, always) or the recalcitrant writer must send the other local goodies or… something.
Think of it as forming a Foundation for your Civil War veterans…. so others can hear their voices.

Oh, the pressure! OK, so if I finish a Weekly Task maybe I can have a cinnamon roll? Works for me.

LOL if I could send you a cheesesteak as a reward, I would. Yes, I like the positive reinforcement. NO pressure.
