Like Babs, Katherine has been out and about taking pictures of this lovely autumn. She writes, “We must have all been driving around the other day because it was too nice to stay inside. It was also spectacular color on the trees. I didn’t realize you could go up the ski lift at any other time except ski season. That’s cool!” (Katherine and I agree that we would never say “groovy” or “outasite” but “cool” is a different matter entirely.)
She captured a ripe milkweed pod just as it opened into a fanciful bird:
She and Babs spotted the same barn, and it’s fascinating to compare the images they made. You’ve seen what Babs made on Let Fall Begin. Katherine shot from a different angle, and in black and white. The shift in mood is striking:

Duh, I didn’t realize it was the same barn!!
Or should I say “far out”?
Thanks Gerry for spotting that.

Not surprising that great minds see great creative possibilities in the same subjects. (You and I both had to stop by the side of US-31 to capture that farm equipment/sculpture for sale! OK, your picture was better.)
Far out, huh? I say that sometimes . . . but I’m pretty sure I only say it with irony. Yup. I just checked. Only with irony. That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.

I was driving up US 31 to the Apple Fest on Saturday, with my “mechanic in residence” in tow, and he had a thought on the farm equipment/sculpture. He said it’s a leave sucker-upper. The hose end sucks up the leaves, and the solid metal end blows them into a truck or pile. One would have to have a lot of leaves, don’t you think?

I think it would be very fine to have a mechanic at hand, on account of I am severely challenged in that area, but I have questions about the towing part. I digress. Your explanation of the farm equipment “bird sculpture” is at least as good as anything I can come up with. I have an idea. I’m going to ask someone who actually knows. I’ll report back.

Katherine, I am in awe of your photographs! I became entranced by a stand of milkweed exploding the other day…all of the white hairy tops looked like faces to me…wizened old men and women surveying the swampy environs. will try to send a photo of same. Katy
