Fish are jumpin’ . . . . well, not quite. Babs Young writes: There are some who think summer has arrived. It was sunny, but not swimming weather. This dude was taking advantage of the strong winds across the East Bay in Traverse City.
That neoprene wetsuit is the only thing standing between our dudely friend and a fatal case of hypothermia. Bet he had a good time out there, though.

Speaking from experience, that neoprene wetsuit won’t save him for long! I love seeing them out there though 🙂
And is the “like” button new?

I actually have a neoprene “Farmer Jane” for kayaking – there will be No Photos. Wouldn’t rely on it in these temperatures. I finally caved in and enabled the Like button.

I don’t blame you for not sharing pictures – they’re not flattering. I shared a picture of me in mine sometime last year in a bout of shamelessness.
I’m glad you added the Like button. Sometimes I appreciate a blog post, but don’t have the words. I’m glad to have a way to pass on some acknowledgement this way 🙂

Yeah, well . . . I’m a curmudgeon. The button is a little too much like Facebook. Don’t get me started. But enough people have nudged. Like away. 😉

Well, there you are. If it weren’t for the color of the water, I’d think it was Corpus Christi Bay. There are some serious windsurfers down there – the winds are so steady and strong they have lots of competitions there – but it’s very rarely so attractive. The strong winds stir up the extremely shallow bays, and the water turns muddy.

I love the blue, blue waters of northern Michigan. We benefit from the sandy soil. Not a lot of muddiness, but we can get some ferocious algae blooms.

It looks dangerously inviting for those of us here in the UK who have been up to our necks in rain for the last month!

If it makes you feel any better, it’s raining here this morning–and in spite of that it’s still tinder-dry in the woods and there is a high risk of forest fires. Spring.

That looks like fun but I’ll wait for the real summer weather and warmer lake temperatures. Beauiftul image.

Thanks, Scott. It’ll warm up one of these days. One of these days in August.

Dear Dudette, that’s a gnarly, rad photo of that windsurfer.

You tawkinna me? Cool.
I had a friend, Helen, who took up windsurfing in her seventies. She was very strong, with those sinewy arms that turn out to be made of equal parts steel cable and determination. All that and she was a gentle peace person. It is not just the furred and feathered denizens of the world who fill me with wonder, but our human selves. All our contradictions and surprises.

Wow, cool. Literally.

We must put this link in our “Favorites” list so that we can find it again in August when we really need it.

Why does that water look like it has horizontal stripes of different shades of blue? Nature does the unexpected in such a subtly beautiful way.
Gerry, I think you and I are on the same page with regards to the like button and its similarity to crackbook. I removed the button function from my site but am still getting the odd notice about likes so it must still be visible to some. Either that or they are getting around my preference settings somehow.

The water really does look like that. The color depends on what lies under the water just there and on clouds and sunlight. Deeper water looks deeper blue. Water looks more turquoise over golden sand, and more aquamarine over exposed layers of blue-green Ellsworth shale. It’s different every day. I never get tired of looking at it.
WordPress is very fond of its Like button and puts on one the admin bar of any WordPress subscriber who Follows your blog, regardless of whether you have removed the Like button from your site–the same way that the pernicious “Reblog” is there.

Aha! I didn’t notice that on the admin bar. Thanks for also explaining the water colors.
