Hold a good thought for good weather on Sunday. I’ve given it a lot of thought, and measured it out as best I can, and I think the best route for the Don Gould Memorial 5k Walk runs from the Day Park to the Nature Preserve and up the beach to Eden Shores, with a shuttle back to the Day Park. Here’s a sampling of what you might see, all except for one picture, but it was blue and you might see it if you make a little detour:
While I was out there plotting I saw a ruffed grouse, a whole lot of gulls, and some stubborn snow. I’m hoping for Dutchmen’s Breeches and Skunk Cabbage by the 10th. What, you don’t like Skunk Cabbage? How about wild leeks? Never mind, I’ll make sure there are treats. They won’t be Sonny’s treats, because Chris and Sonny won’t be open until April 15, but they will be excellent treats anyway. I promised.
We have a couple of alternative routes in mind Just In Case. We’ll meet in the parking lot of the Bill Good Day Park a little before noon so that we can start the walk itself at noon.
Maybe I’ll start practicing The Happy Wanderer.

An inspirational walk in memory of an inspirational man.
This is a route that I’m sure Don would have been delighted about.
Happy walking!!

Gerry, when I opened your link this morning and saw the lake, first thing I said to myself——-HOME——, than wet stuff in the eyes. Thank you for starting my day off with such a beautiful picture.
Have a great walk, I just know the weather will be beautiful!

You are welcome, Pat. Hold that good thought for the weather. The forecast is ambivalent–warmer, chance of rain and thunderstorms . . . wait, wait!

*crosses everything I have two of* hope you get a nice, bright day, not too sunny, just a light breeze, and the Duo behave impeccably.
5k is a good start – my friend is currently in training for the Moonwalk, the show-off. In aid of breast cancer research, the (mainly female) walkers follow the marathon course, but at night, and they walk rather than run. Usually in a hand-decorated bra, to the bemusement of any early-arriving tourists. They also wear shorts and shoes, I should point out, in case anyone from Away is picturing loads of women wandering around Edinburgh, in the dark, wearing nothing BUT a decorated bra.

Fee, you paint such pictures . . . Just in case anyone is tuning in late, our walk will be conducted entirely clothed, decorations optional. I was thinking it would be nice if we all wore blue or green, but the Cowboy wants a red bandana.

I really must invest in a pedometer. Sarah and I took quite a hike this morning, as the trail was so inviting I kept going on and on instead of turning back. Wish we could come and walk with you and the Duo. Maybe one of these summer mornings it will happen.

I got a pedometer as a prize in a box of something–can’t remember what–and used it a few times. Then I lost it. Oh well. I decided I just didn’t care how far I walked, just what I saw, how good I felt, what adventures we had. I do need to get out there more often and more briskly, though. It would be most wonderful to have a morning walk with you and Sarah.

Pj, do you happen to own an iPod or so-called “smart” phone of any type? You can get a pedometer for free on one of those!

Can I come? I’m hoping for the 70’s we’re supposed to get Sunday…I know my 5K route…it’s not that exciting…but it’s the longest I’ve walked in years. So don’t let me forget!!

We are looking forward to your virtual presence, not to mention Katie’s. We’ll holler when we get up. We pretty much always do that on account of one or another of us almost always trips over a book the cat knocked off the bedside table.

I’m looking forward to Sunday too! I don’t know exactly what time we’ll get out there, but I’ll think of you and Sadie and Cowboy while we are walking.

Gerry, you have succeeded in making a “Blues Square”. I have an artist friend, Dan, who once made a painting, that was eight feet long and a foot high. It depicted verticle stripes of varying widths, in shades of blue. He gave it the title,”Blues Band”. It was perfectly named. It was his idea, to view it from left to right and play what he felt. I don’t recall hearing him do that, but I have no doubt that it could be done, and it would be the “Blues”.

From which we can infer that when it comes to the blues, I’m a square. Sigh. It’s not the first time I’ve heard that.
I like the idea of a Blues Band. Maybe I’ll make one for the header sometime in the summer.

Hi Robin! We are planning to be intrepid. We’ll let you know how that goes.
