Late-breaking news: Cherry industry awards

You know these people. The Kings.  That’s Betsy in pink, She Who Gives Pie.  John’s next to her.  Rose is in green.  You remember her from the apricot canning workshop, right?  And over on the left is Jim, her husband and co-Grandparent of a First Grandchild.  He’s on the Torch Lake Township Planning Commission, too, but we won’t hold that against him.  In the middle we have the reigning National Cherry Queen, Maria LaCross.  As far as I know she is quite a way from being even a first-time grandparent, and steers clear of planning commissions on general principles.

OK, here’s the deal.  The Cherry Festival Committee gave the 2011 Very Cherry Promotion Award for general promotional excellence to Antrim County’s own King Orchards – YAYYYY! – as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award to Clinton Smeltzer, an upstart from Bear Lake.  You can read all about it at :

Cherry industry recognizes King Orchards, Clinton Smeltzer.

You will see this same picture on that site.  That is because I stole it.  You see how I am.  I will give it back if they make me.

Over here at the Writing Studio and Bait Shop we are very happy about the award.  It seems that our supply of excellent cherry treats is secure for another year.  All’s right with the world.  Congratulations to the Kings—and to Clinton Smeltzer, too.

If you are from Away, you may wonder what I’m on about.  Just bask in a happy moment.  Next time we stop by King’s on our rounds, you will feel right at home.  You will know something nice about these people.  I don’t see how we can go wrong.
