Miss Sadie and the Cowboy are feeling smug. Yesterday’s mail brought an exciting package from our friend Loreen Niewenhuis, stamped MEDIA MAIL. Inside was an advance copy of A 1000-Mile Walk on the Beach, the book Loreen wrote about her year-long trek around Lake Michigan.
Inside the book there is a chapter about the part of the trek that took her along the Antrim County shoreline, and inside that is a section entitled Miss Sadie and the Cowboy.
The best part is this. While the book celebrates the beauty of the lake we love, it is also a heartfelt call to action to protect its life-giving water. Jerry Dennis, one of my favorite outdoor writers, says In her walk around Lake Michigan, Loreen Niewenhuis accomplished what many of us have only daydreamed about. Her adventure is told with verve and boldness, and she is a clear-eyed observer of the lake and its beautiful and sometimes ravaged shore. This book is a welcome addition to the literature of the Great Lakes.
I’ve been following the story for a long time on Loreen’s blog, Lake Trek, and I’m delighted to have the finished book in my hands. Review to follow, in plenty of time for the March release by Crickhollow Books!

Miss Sadie and the Cowboy published! I hope it doesn’t go their heads. Tell them congratulations from Daphne and Teddy and me!

Well . . . not published, exactly, as they did no writing at all. But written about, yes. They are pleased.

I’ve been trying to leave a comment this morning, as follows:
I certainly look forward to your review, Gerry. That’s exciting news for Loreen and for all of us. Did Miss Sadie and the Cowboy know they were going to be in a book? They must be overwhelmed!
Now I’m quite disgusted with all things Internet and am going to give myself a day offline.
I know just how PJ feels. My always-erratic and slooooow dialup service is even worse than usual. I’m pretty sure it’s because there’s an internet traffic jam, what with people horsing around battling over WikiLeaks and people doing their holiday shopping online. Ah well. This too shall pass.
