Babs Young writes: It’s morning on Beaver Island. I spent a little over one day there last week. I’ll go back again. Much to take in. You can see the rest of my photos from Beaver Island on Flickr.
I’m just sure this is a black and white image. Positive. So why is there red in it?
One day I should do a post about the Strangite Mormons who fled Beaver Island when things were getting hot, right before James Strang was assassinated. Some of them ended up right here in Torch Lake Township.

Gerry, I want to hear all about the Strangites in TLT.

I do not know all there is to know about them, but I have come across some of them in the course of tracking my Civil War veterans. I guess I will have to get busy on my Mormons in Antrim project, eh? Meanwhile you can go over to Bayview Cemetery to see the gravestones of Reuben T. and Mary Nichols. They suffered greatly during the Mormon expulsion, but eventually proved a homestead claim to 160 acres where Nichols Road is now. Reuben died in 1886, and as far as I know was not a Civil War veteran, but he was an interesting figure.

That bit of red looks good. Just the right touch. I want to go to Beaver Island, too!

I think it looks good too. I just can’t for the life of me figure out how it snuck into that black and white photo.
Babs wants to go back. I love Beaver Island. I’ll bet we could organize an expedition in September. Oh blessed September.

Beautiful picture and place ! I love the birds in the foreground, the red touch at the back. Do I see some green too at the edge of the water ? My eyes react strangely to couleurs lately.

Thank you. I believe there is a hint of green, right where there is most likely a strip of emerald grass. Sonofagun. I hadn’t even noticed that. My eyes react strangely to ragweed lately. Sigh.

OK, you two. You really need to think about your color challenged readers. I even expanded the photo and examined it closely, then decided it was no use looking any more. Good night.

Well, now, I think this is the perfect photo for color challenged readers, as it is stunning in black and white and intriguing with its hints of color. Something for everyone.
