On Wednesday, June 23 a dozen providers are coming to the Health Fair sponsored by the Torch Lake Township EMS. This is a great opportunity for you to check up on Your Tax Dollars at Work. Examine the nice ambulances you paid for. Reassure yourself that they are ready to fetch you in case of Unfortunate Occurrences. Curious about the red helicopter that ferries emergencies to Munson? Talk to the folks from Northflight.
Have your blood glucose or blood pressure checked–for free! Find out about services that help you stay in your home when you’re sick or just slowing down. Worried about your cholesterol? Charlevoix Area Hospital will have a team there to do a screening ($12 fee). Thinking about increasing the Township population? Blessing the Womb Midwife will be there. Facing difficult end-of-life choices? Hospice of Northern Michigan will be there, too.
Learn about sleep apnea and Alzheimer’s and counseling and chiropractic. Be a good neighbor–roll up your sleeve at the Red Cross Blood Drive. Check out the stuff you can borrow from the Loan Closet. Meet the great team of EMTs who staff your township ambulance service. I don’t see how you can go wrong.
You don’t have to live in the Township to attend the Health Fair. Everybody is welcome. Be well.

Aaaah, the blood drive – known where I work as the “Vampire Truck’s Bi-annual visit”. They roll up, drain half a litre from each volunteer, and dish out in return their own particular selection of chocolate biscuits. A satisfactory transaction all round, really.
I’d be drifting towards the helicopter from the get-go – it’s the only kind of flying I’ve never experienced (and I fervently hope that if I do it will be as a paying passenger, not a Med-Evac case!)

Oh dear, I hope I haven’t misled the public. The helicopter has no place to land at the Township Hall, so it will not be there. But some of the EMTs who staff it will attend. Now that you mention it, I wonder if they will bring the helicopter as far as the Torchport and then catch a ride to the Health Fair? So many mysteries in life.

Gerry it is great of you to help promote such an event. Where would we be without such a service as the EMS?

It is in my self-interest to promote the event. I am getting to be an old bat, and the presence of the shiny ambulance with its capable crew is a great comfort.
