What can I say, Bruce’s post about cats was tremendously popular, and now Miss Sadie and the Cowboy are clamoring for a dog post. Fine. As it happens, I have some irresistible images from the Petoskey Stone Festival and from a lovely walk on the beach. Big dogs, little dogs, a tiny dog, and Jett of the K9 Corps.
Now that you’ve seen how much fun beloved dogs can have around here, we have a little message from our friends at AC Paw. There are other dogs–and cats as well–who do not have nearly so much fun. Please support the good work AC Paws volunteers do for animals. Look for their excellent treats at pet-friendly shops and events all over the County, or just put a little check in the mail to buy kibble. Or a big check. They use lots of kibble.
And, um, keep in mind that Miss Sadie, the Cowboy and Miss Puss all found their way to the Writing Studio and Bait Shop through difficult circumstances. Look how that worked out. If you are thinking it would be nice to have a furry friend around the house, you could give thought to adopting one that needs you as much as you need it.

I really like the picture of Trooper Mikowski and Jett – what an IMPOSING pair they make! Locally, our K9 squad in the SAPS tends to use German Shepherds, which are always magnificent specimen simply exuding power, strength, agility and courage with every breath. Hurray for the K9 Squad!

And to think that they posed for me after a long afternoon–in 90 degree heat–of performing for the crowd! Imposing indeed. I asked Trooper Mikowski to share a story about a satisfying assignment, and she told us about the time she and Jett were called out at night in a snowstorm to find a gun. Did I mention the gun was thrown away in the woods off a sandy two-track? And that the snow was blowing horizontally? And that it was about a foot deep and still blowing? And they found the gun. Good job.

Thank you, thank you. You’ve made me and my youngest very happy – dog lovers both of us.
Our own wee puss came to us from a rescue centre – and fitted in as if she’d always lived here. I still sell Christmas raffle tickets for the rescue place – it’s the least we can do.

I’m glad you enjoyed it! I like to support rescue groups, too, and am grateful for the volunteers who provide foster care while animals await adoption. Since I’m a chronic adopter, and cannot imagine how we could add one more resident to the Writing Studio and Bait Shop (except for a forest ranger) I restrict myself to financial support.

Such doggone fun…your captions read like a Dr. Suess book! Count me in the dog lover column – 🙂 Our little Humane Society in Houghton recently won a nationwide voting contest for $10,000 – Yoopers from all over voted every day and many times in support of what they do. Thanx to them and all the others who work hard to save the goofy, wondermous pets we share our lives with!

What an adorable post! I’m glad Miss Sadie and the Cowboy insisted on it. Teddy and Daphne approve!
