I got home from work tonight and found the weekly gift from Babs Young. She writes: A beautiful Torch Lake sunrise and the Democrats are about to pass Health Care Reform tonight. Two pretty good things up here in Northern Michigan.
We will have such a long way to go to make all of this work, but at least we have begun. I just went out and looked. The moon and stars are still up there. The sky has not fallen. The sun will rise over Torch Lake again in the morning.
Every week photographer Babs Young captures moments in northern Michigan, and every week she sends one to Torch Lake Views just for you. You can find more of her photos at the Babs Young Photo Archives and on her Blue Heaven Flickr photostream.

Congratulations!!! with the new health care reform, – we have just heard about the great news in the radio this morning. We also heard people shouting in protest about their comming protection…and so the day started with a little talk and a very big wondering about what the problem could be. The answer is not in sight, we endet up with agreeing that only Americans understand this. I´m sure more than one who are protesting now, will be more than happy to have this protection later on. Luckily some people are capable to think forward, and very luckily it was the majority at this vote.
Another gratulation is for you. who have passed 100.000 visitors this night, possibly at the moment the heath care reform was accepted…that must be a very good sign!

Ah, Birgitte, even Americans don’t understand how we got to be quite so contentious. Far too often the question is not “what would be good public policy?” but “how can I turn this situation to political advantage for myself and my party?” This is a very bad–and disrespectful–way to live together in a democracy. But the nation still stands, and we will muddle through once more.

Amen, again. I would have made even more changes… and if I had my way, we’d start all over again in D.C., but yes, “at least we have begun.”

I was thrilled for you when I saw this on the News last night. It’ll take time, yes, but a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. To quote someone (can’t remember who!).
Well done to all the right-thinking Americans who backed this, those in government, and those who campaigned.

As they say, America is tough. It fights change while heralding its coming. Seems we don’t get much done anymore so something is better than nothing. Time and hard work will prove it’s worth. Or, we’ll change it as needed.
Just look at this photo…I know life will go on.
