Babs Young has been to another of Antrim County’s glamor events. Here is her dispatch:
Yesterday the American Premier of Michael Moore’s new film, Capitalism: A Love Story was held in Bellaire with a reception across the street at Lulu’s. Here Michael speaks with Governor William Milliken and his wife Helen at Lulu’s. I urge each of you to see this brilliant new film from Michael Moore.
I remember when there were a lot of Republicans like the Millikens. Of course, I also remember when you could buy a really big chocolate bar for a nickel and a whole tank of gas for three bucks. I am an old bat. Older than dirt. In spite of that, I hope to live long enough to see lots more Milliken-style Republicans in politics.

Gerry, I couldn’t agree more. There was a great article about Mr. Moore in the New York Times yesterday that is worth reading.

Thanks for the link, Babs. I read the article and thought it was pretty good (newsflash: rural blogger finds NYT article “pretty good” – ah well). See, people just don’t know how to take a blue collar guy with a Jesuit-honed brain. Especially one who goes on to make a ton of money, and still manages to get that other people are falling off the economic cliff. That line about using humor writing to keep himself “from finding out what’s on the other side of that anger” just about made me weep.
