Signs abound that The Season is over. The week before school opens tourists with children vanish. Over at Pine Hill Nursery there are hundreds of mums in every color imaginable, and some beautiful little saplings in full scarlet regalia.

It’s a good time to plant trees, but too late to go to the Garden Cafe. It’s closed for the season. Summer People are pulling their boats and docks out. You can find a parking place at the Eastport Market and a booth at Sonny’s. Here and there trees are beginning to color. Each morning we see a few bright leaves fallen on the path.
But I say it’s still summer. The last week has been sunny and warm and the forecast is for more of the same. The markets are full of local corn and tomatoes. Torch Lake is blue, blue, blue, and the Bay is clear over corduroy sand. I love this time of year. I think I’ll go swimming today.

It has been beautiful. with the added bonus of being able to cross the street without having to wait for a gazillion cars all going way too fast.

It’s still summer, hurray! Although some of those trees are starting to show patches of red and orange. Did you really go swimming? Deep bows to you…
