A wedding on Torch Lake

All week it rained. The weather widget moaned and predicted floods of biblical proportions. Last night thunder jolted the dogs into a barking frenzy. Up at Stone Circle Wendi and Terry Wooten pondered the backup plans for the Big Event. It has been a stressful time for the parents of the bride. But today the sun poured down and a cool breeze came up and by glory it was a splendid day for a wedding.

And so, just as planned, Wendi and Terry’s daughter Blaise married her beloved George Lowe on the lawn of her grandparents’ house on Torch Lake, on the very same spot where her parents were married thirty years before. The bridesmaids’ dresses shimmered with all the blues of the lake. The bride and groom glowed. The assembled guests sniffled a little and chuckled a little, at the appropriate times, as is proper. It was perfect.

Then everybody went over to Stone Circle for the party, and that was perfect, too. There were excellent treats and tiny children dancing and poets on their best behavior. There was even a moment of drama, as dark clouds swirled above, glowering against the blue.  But Torch Lake laughed and flung its colors into the sky.

We are not promised life without storms, but we are graced with moments of astonishing beauty. Blessings on Blaise and George. Blessings on Terry and Wendi. Blessings on Diane and George Lowe, George’s parents. And blessings on you.
