This from Babs Young in the morning’s email: What better place to enjoy a Torch Lake sunset than the Dockside . . .
I have never been to the Dockside at sunset. Does that not look like fun? It looks like fun. It is a lot of fun in the daytime, too, but clearly I need to expand my horizons.
Every week photographer Babs Young captures moments in northern Michigan, and every week she sends one to Torch Lake Views just for you. You can find more of her photos at the Babs Young Photo Archives.

Look at that orange. What a view!
Eastern Passage there’s a spot called Boondocks where local folks and tourists can also sip and dine on the dock while watching the sun set. How civilized.

We’ve been to the Dockside! We’ve been to the Dockside! We even met someone from L’Anse there the last time we went. Small world, right? As for sunset there…no. That would probably be too late for us. Tell Babs it’s a great photo though.

This image makes me want to jump in the car and drive right around the Bay and then around the lake before the end of day. Only a dream…. Luckily, we enjoy beautiful sunsets over here, too.

I tellya, there’s nothing like a good sunset to get everyone’s attention. We are rich in sunsets in the Township . . . and across the Bay . . . and on Lake Superior . . . and in Nova Scotia . . . So Beth, you’d probably better plan on making a trip!

The sunset is one of the best parts of living on the east side of the lake. Great picture, Babs!

When I was a kid, we rented a cottage on Torch every summer. A typical evening activity was to drive to a place called Sunset Hill to watch the sun go down over the lake and the bay beyond it. It wasn’t exactly a park, but there were often other people there. I am wondering if this spot is still accessible to the public and where it is.

There’s Sunset Hill Road in Central Lake Township. Lots of nice views along it. Trees grow and die, shrubby undergrowth fills in here and there, people change the landscape . . . . The views will always change, so I don’t know if your special spot is the same, but there’s definitely good accessible sunset-watching!

I was in Michigan for about 7 months and hated it the whole time. Except for the day I spent @ Torch Lake. I ate at an amazing resturant, while the sun was setting, the food the view, the atmosphere were amazing. I have a high stress job and many time while at work when I close my eyes and imagine a peaceful place. I go back to that moment and look at the lake in my mind all over again. I would recommend it to anyone and often do

Goodness Antoinette. Sounds like you came to Michigan on a short-term assignment and had a hard time at work while you were here. I’m glad Torch Lake brought you some respite. Michigan, like every place else I’ve ever been, is pretty complex. Mostly it’s beautiful, friendly, and full of interesting things to do. It’s too bad you found only one day in that category.
