Out and about on a warmish sunny day it was hard to miss the bright irises blooming all around the township. They’re popular in Eastport gardens and have been for a long time—Loraine Mottern included them in her Wilkinson Homestead garden restoration, and they look very cheery along the fence.
The landscaping around the Torch Bay Inn is filled with irises of every color, and I had a wonderful time trying to capture a sampling. Turns out the lovely things are surprisingly challenging to photograph. The structure is so convoluted that pictures are chaotic or look like alien beings ready to devour the viewer or . . . excuses excuses.
I like irises. I took a lot of snapshots and these, as Babs would say, made the cut. The white ones are fragrant.
I believe I’ll have a gorgonzola sandwich and a glass of burgundy for lunch. Happy Bloomsday.

Beautiful! I photographed a wild iris in the swamp near the oxbow last week. You have captured some gorgeous ones. It’s kind of interesting to photograph flowers. Waiting to see what an azalea looks like when it gets on the computer screen. You never know, do you?

You never do . . . I can usually tell if a regular shot has potential just by looking at the camera’s viewer, but closeups are something else. Lots of mistakes, a few pleasant surprises.
