In Michigan, we are more interested in cars than the average person in, say, Washington D.C. New cars, customized cars, restored cars, beloved clunkers . . . and don’t get me started on our trucks. We love our trucks. Do not mess with our trucks. So it is fitting that there should be a Collector Car and Truck Show in Central Lake this weekend.
Friday evening is Cruise Night. The Big Show is on Saturday, and there will be prizes. Serious prizes, like those big red metal toolchests with all the drawers. I love those toolchests. You’d better go to Joel Shooks’s website for more about the whole thing because I don’t begin to have space to list all the prizes. Even if you don’t have a show car or you don’t like cars (not from around here, eh?) you can have a lot of fun wandering around people-watching and eating treats. Miss Sadie, the Cowboy and I will be there.
I don’t know if Matt Bishaw will be there or not, but I sort of think he might be. I got talking to him when I saw his truck.
What, I wanted to know, was that on the hood? Well, ask a guy in Michigan about his truck and the next thing you know you’re deep in the innards Under the Hood.
That big air-scoop on the hood pours right into that enormous filter and, I gather, helps to supercharge this particular truck, which is not just any truck, but a racing truck. It doesn’t even have a gas tank. It has a fuel cell. (Do I understand this? I do not. But I’m sending a link for this post to Matt and he can explain it all for you.)
Matt’s Truck has fat racing tires, and the interior is all tricked out in black velvet and designer seat covers. It is most likely 2FAST4U.
(Note to Sheriff Dan Bean: Matt would never, ever go 2FAST4U on the public highways and byways of Antrim County.)

I’m a Mustang man myself but this is one hopped up truck. He race it at a local dragstrip? I have a dragstrip near me which I’ll be visiting sometime this summer. There’s some serious HP going on there and here.

I leave it to Matt to explain where The Truck races. (Definitely not on US 31, Sheriff Bean!) Except for the Detroit Grand Prix, which everyone with an office downtown had to “attend” whether we wished to or not, I haven’t been to an auto race since my folks wrapped me in a paper mill blanket and sat me on the bleachers at the stock car races in Rhinelander Wisconsin. I cried whenever one of the silver ones crashed. I still favor silver cars.

If the truck were parked in Northport, there’d be a dog in the driver’s seat.

Oh yes! And of course if it were parked in Eden Shores there would be one dog in the driver’s seat and another up on the rear window deck.

P.S. BTW, I love the new banner up top with the swans.

Thank you. I snapped that photo while walking on the bayshore with Loreen Niewenhuis and babbling on to her about the swans I used to see on my own Breezy Point.
