The Cowboy goes fishing

I was distracted this morning by the lovely ice patterns on the shore and failed to keep good track of the Cowboy.  He was a busy boy, snuffling along deer trails and putting his whole head into holes in the ice.  Then he grew quiet.  He was surreptitiously digging a long-dead lake trout out of the sand, pulling on it ever so quietly, hoping I would not notice.  He almost got away with it, too, but Miss Sadie ratted him out.  I think she didn’t want to wash his face for him if he got any further into that trout.  So here you go.  First the distracting ice patterns, then the trout.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Now those are teeth.  And this was a smallish lake trout.  At least it wasn’t a muskie.

On a gentler note, we have this note from Alana Haley:

The Martha Wagbo Farm and Education Center is hosting Woodcock Walks every Sunday and Wednesday evening during the month of April from 8:00 to 9:00pm. Register today for an evening viewing of the spectacularly dramatic courtship display of these amazing birds. Find out why they are nicknamed the little brown ghost as we sneak through forest and field to experience our local harbingers of spring. Great outdoor fun for individuals and families! Please call the center at 231-536-0333 or email wagbo@torchlake.com to register.

Doesn’t that sound nice? Sneaking up on woodcock romance? I believe I’m going to give it a try.
