I was deep in the down comforter this morning when the Disreputable Duo and their feline accomplice dug me out and told me it was time to get up. The bedroom window glittered with frost paintings. The sky was blue. There was sunshine. Holy Wah. Off we went on our walk.

No one else was about except the Morning Jogger, a disciplined neighbor who will probably live to be 130. The Bay was quiet—bordered in ice mountains but still warmer than the air. Mist floated above the water, hiding the Leelanau.

My fingers went numb inside my HotShot Hunting Gloves, so taking pictures was not a great success. We did see the eagle, but you’ll have to take my word for it. Then we went home and had breakfast and the Duo, their responsibilities acquitted, took a nap.

It’s a beautiful day in the drumlins. I hope it’s beautiful wherever you are, too.

Crikey – you see some beautiful things!
I’m trying to force myself to get up and go to the store.
Maybe after a coffee.

All the more beautiful for seeing your photos.
I tell my children about ‘Jack Frost’ leaving patterns on the bedroom window, but over here with our now milder winters, central heating and double glazing (things that took no part in my childhood!) they have never seen such a thing.
I think the Disreputable Duo did you a favour!!

Leslie, seeing beautiful things is my hobby! For example, I’ve seen lots of lovely Italian scenery on your Australian blog. Go figure.
Heather, thank you. The winters of my childhood featured colder rooms and leakier windows, too . . . which prepared me for life in an imperfectly “winterized” summer cottage. With enough down, enough wool socks and a couple of scruffy dogs a person can manage nicely, and get to see Jack Frost’s paintings on a regular basis!

Yes, cold, but yes, beautiful, too! We had a frozen water pipe but got to it early enough that it could be thawed without damage. Frost and sunshine evidently go together, two sides of the same coin.

Taking the dogs for a walk on a bitter clear night I see many more stars than I do in summer–but I’m not tempted to lie on my back on the ground to watch them. The cloudy gray blanket that covers us so often in winter can seem gloomy, but it does help to hold in some heat!
Glad you got to the frozen pipe in time, PJ. My old house had char marks on the beams where someone had nearly burned the place down trying to thaw out the kitchen pipes.

What a lovely Christmas card! I shoveled about a foot of snow yesterday (downstate) and cleared the sidewalk. This morning there were deer tracks on the cleared sidewalk…hmmmm a Santa scouting team? Katy

I can hear it now:
“Bambi to Rudolph, Bambi to Rudolph. Come in Rudolph.”
“Rudolph to Bambi. You are coming in loud and clear. We await instructions.”
“Bambi to Rudolph. You are cleared for landing at Katy’s house.”
“Rudolph to Bambi. Roger. Here comes Santa Claus, Here comes Santa Claus . . . “

If you like the Jack Frost painting, you’ll like the “ice flowers” on Birgitte’s post An ice-cold decoration.
