Tim Peterson and I don’t agree on everything, but I think he’d be a good Torch Lake Township Trustee anyway. Here’s why:
- He speaks plainly. The man will tell you what’s on his mind, and you will not come away confused about what he means or whether he really means it.
- He’s been following township government closely for a number of years, and is up to speed on the issues.
- He would bring a different perspective to the Board and to township government in general.
- He runs a family business (Peterson’s US-31 North Restaurant) in the township and provides jobs as well as services. On a daily basis he deals with regulations imposed by every layer of government.
- He is younger than almost all of the people currently serving in township government. He’s comfortable with the internet and with emerging technologies. He wants to make sure the township uses the internet to provide more timely and comprehensive information to residents and visitors alike.
- He and his wife have a terrific daughter in the Elk Rapids Schools, and they’re actively involved with kids and education—the future.
- Between his neighbors and his employees and his daughter’s friends and his restaurant patrons he hears from a bigger range of township residents than most of us do. He listens, too.
- He has a good sense of humor. Do not underestimate the value of a sense of humor in the face of difficult times.
I’m going to vote for him. I hope you will, too.

Living in petoskey and traveling to Traverse everday, I and a number of other people who travel daily look forward to read what Matt is up to. One of these days I need to stop in on Friday for Perch.
Does Matt realy exist?

Matt does, indeed, exist. When Peterson’s hosted the Torch Lake business bunch back in November, I tried to take a picture of him WITH the equally famous Nikkie (Nicki?). However, there was no memory card in my camera. I will get the job done someday. Meanwhile, you should definitely drop in for perch on a Friday evening. If you offer to climb up on the ladder in the freezing sleet to change the sign, Matt will probably serve you a double portion.
