I’m sorry to tell you that Sophie, the beloved Customer Service Mascot at King Orchards, has died after being hit by a car. The sweet-tempered Bernese Mountain Dog had a gentle greeting for everyone, and always made me feel very special. Betsy King says they’re going to honor her memory by bringing a pup sired by one of Sophie’s litter-mates into their family. They sincerely hope that the new addition will turn out to be as “petite” as Sophie was. Miss Sadie and the Cowboy join me in extending condolences to the King family. (Dog people. We’re all daft.)

Sophie! How sad for her to go that way instead of getting slow and arthritic in her greeter role! I saw “good dog” and got all smiley at the prospect of a dog story, and then it was such a sad one that I’m going to have to spend extra time this morning with puppy Sarah on my lap. Bye-bye, Sophie. All dogs are good dogs!

I think extra laptime for Sarah is a fitting tribute to Sophie.

My Dudley and Boomer send their condolences to the King family. Losing a beloved pet is hard under any circumstances, but this has to be the worst.

I have never met Sophie but I agree with Ms Cobb. I can’t imagine loosing my Sadie in that manner. Brings tears to my eyes just thinking that she is 13 now, and her time may come sooner than later.
My sympathy to the Kings.
