Bruce Laidlaw was out and about along M-88 and stopped to admire the elk at Conant's Maplehurst Farms . . . which are definitely not moose but do answer to wapiti or omashkooz.

Here it is, the middle of May—a run of days with sunshine and warming temperatures and we are optimists again. All up and down this side of Antrim County the farm markets are opening for The Season, flags flying.

As I drove east on M-88 the car filled with an eyewatering aroma. Cowboy! I growled, casting a steely eye at the spaniel in the rearview mirror. He looked confused. We emerged from the reeking cloud. Ah. Now I remembered.

Yesterday John King posted Weather Challenges, another of his informative musings on orchardry in Antrim County. Are they out of the woods over at King's? Nope. Is there reason for hope? Of course. (I believe the Antrim County Farmer's motto is I farm, therefore I hope.)
