Babs Young writes: Needless to say, there are not many tourists on Mackinac Island this time of year especially when it is pouring rain and cold. (But never fear. Our Babs was intrepid.)
On Friday Babs and Betty Jo and I headed over to Leland. It was an expedition, as it takes almost an hour and a half to get down our side of the Bay and back up the other side on the Leelanau Peninsula.
I don't usually wish I could be 18 again. I remember too well all the hard lessons that lay in store for me. (I just wish my body could be 18 again. That's the ticket.) The next best thing, it turns out, is to spend a day wandering around a college campus in early September.
