I think this is good art, if you ask me, and I would be happy to have this little “slideshow” on my wall. The words fits well.
Nothing fun to say about this, just compliments. I hope to see more from you before this assignment is over, my guess is that you have plenty of interesting material?

I am thrilled with your very nice compliment. Thank you.
You will definitely see more from me, because I am up to something, but I may be done with abstraction for the moment. Maybe not. It’s March – you just never know. As for material, I have enough to construct an entire circus tent. The question is whether I can learn how to sew.

I must say that I agree with Birgitte. – Again!
Amazing that you can make this changing slide show with just one photo.

Thank you Carsten. Everyone is full of surprises tonight. This morning. Whatever it is. (I must never, never drink coffee in the evening again, not ever.) I was going to make it a six-slide show but I couldn’t make the colors come out right for the other two.

Thanks for the inspiration Gerry. No, not the coffee, but the slide show.

You are entirely welcome, Carsten. You took that tiny grain of inspiration and turned it into a Meditation Station.

When me and my little dog sit out in the sun in the garden, these words could describe us both. But actually it is only I who am detached and preoccupied. She is entirely engaged, watching every blackbird, blown leaf and swaying branch.

Your mind worked wonders in the early morning hours or maybe late night hours. I like the faded to black version the best. Surely reducing it to the form of the subject brought out the starkness and beauty of the corn stalks.

I’m glad you like it, Scott. Not cornstalks . . . (serene little smile)
Is everyone up at this hour? I was just about to go to bed.

Corn stalks or whatever…they look cool in black.
I’m up to get ready for work. 🙂 Good Night!

Thank you Scott. Have a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed sort of morning.

You got the snow to leave the grasses free? How did you do that?
Gerry
March 8, 2012
The grasses are on the beach, where the wind blows the snow around, sometimes making deep drifts right next to bare stretches of sand. The photo was taken last Thursday (March 1) when there was not so much snow. These are tough grasses for all their slenderness. They spin themselves into a topknot and trace a perfect circle in the snow around their tussock.
You have a good eye.

VERY cool slideshow Gerry! Just might steal your slideshow idea, but no worries…it won’t be NEARLY as cool as yours. 🙂 Abstraction=Distraction thanks to Scott. I’m suddenly seeing everything in patterns.
St. Photo….I like it!
Have a glorious day…it’s supposed to get up to 60 degrees in these here parts today, although I suspect rain is going to spoil the party. I’ll take it, rain or not!

Thank you. Steal away. The more the merrier. Part of the fun of looking at other people’s work is getting ideas that you then turn around and execute differently. Then those people come to see your work and go away with new ideas . . . and so on. Creativity is seven parts hard work and one part playing pool – or maybe pinball – with all those shiny balls.

Thank you. The nickname is just a natural, isn’t it? (For people who don’t know what we’re talking about, Scott’s blog URL is stphoto.wordpress.com, for Scott Thomas Photography.)

I’m just grinning. When I was up in Minnesota last fall, I made the people who were toting me around stop so I could take photos of the corn fields, which still were waiting for harvest. I have a couple of favorites from that group which are similar to these, though not so striking.
I’m especially taken with the lighter versions. The black seems a little stark. But both remind me of woodblock prints. Just lovely.

Well thank you. You would have loved the other two slides I wanted to make. The ones I couldn’t get to color properly.

I love grasses. I always find a way to surround myself with a beautiful variety of tall grasses. Very pretty, Gerry.

Thank you Martha. I like them too. I like the way the wind flows over them, and the way they shine in the sun.

Beautiful, Gerry–and showing once again that our abstract thoughts arise from our experience of this beautiful material world. Thank you!

So what are you saying, P.J. – you and I are just Material Girls? Cool.

Gerry, these make me think of The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh. There’s something ominous about them.
Gerry
March 9, 2012
I thought there was a certain eerieness to them. Of course, I am often fanciful. I had never heard of the Scarecrow until you made this comment. Now I’ve been off finding out about him. Astonishing. There’s a long tradition of masked champions of the poor. A subject worth pondering.

Neat idea Gerry! Wow you jumped right in on that photo assignment, and here’s me still trying to figure out what the heck I will shoot. The slideshow was a really neat idea and it is pretty cool how you’ve made the shots look so different. Nice work!

Hello Gerry, nice to be back around your lake 🙂 Love your abstraction photography. Particularly the picture in the black/blue shades, great contrast in lines and colours. To me it looks like a coloured Indian ink sketch, if such a thing exists. But then we are in the “abstraction”, aren’t we, and all is possible. You chose the perfect words to define this concept.

Hello Gerry – Found you through Scott’s Abstraction Assignment. How cool to find another Michigan “neighbor” online! Love the info on your blog about Antrim County and Torch Lake area. I’m in Luce Cty. U.P. How blessed we are to live in this state of fabulous nature!
