I woke up this morning to a snowstorm, fat flakes lazing about in slow spirals on their way down, very restful. I was prepared to lie there indefinitely just watching it fall. But I keep a cat and two dogs and have grave responsibilities.
Off to breakfast at Java in Elk Rapids. Satisfactory as always, and on my way out I spotted something new: the Cherryland Middle School writing project.
Piles of composition books were laid out on the hearth, each with a different Subject, and an invitation to write. Pens were scattered among the books. I was intrigued. I was out of time. More about this one day next week.
Meanwhile I’ve been saving up good links for you, just in case you’re looking for something new and different on a February day.
- I have to thank Martha of Living Among Tourists for uncovering the Pothole Gardener.
- There are bird photos and there are bird photos. I am bewitched by these on Tootlepedal’s Blog. In fact, there are bewitching bird photos just about every day over there and I never get tired of them.
- If you enjoyed the TLV post about stone guest houses, you’ll absolutely love The Little Chapel on Lynne Kovan’s blog.
- For something completely different—high-tech, crisp-edged and cool—take a look at Photography in the Lab.
Have fun. Back later.

Thanks for the nod, Gerry! And those “fat flakes” you got are all beat up into tiny sand size flakes creating some mighty white outs here! I’ll be posting an all-white day tomorrow.

I enjoyed that post very much and spent a long time looking at the bits and pieces. I’m looking forward to finding out more about the writing project myself. I’m definitely setting aside some time next week to have breakfast at Java and read the composition books.

Love the technical photos…the tungsten basket, the devices for displacement, the blades of turbomolecular..and there’s something about the lab notes too. And the writing project? That sounds fascinating! Can’t wait to hear more about it.

See, now, this is the difference between us. I just liked the very cool shapes . . .
The writing project, now, that is something I ought to be able to understand in depth. I promise more next week.

Love the “Holes of Happiness” that you linked to. And of course, my best bud, Lynne Kovan’s blog.
I think those books are a wonderful idea !

Thank you for the very kind comments. I love taking pictures of the birds. I never really looked closely at them until I got a good camera a couple of years ago.

You are welcome. It’s one thing to see an excellent bird portrait in isolation – and another thing entirely to see excellent photos of a whole community of birds going about their birdly business day after day. It’s very engrossing.
