Babs is morose. We’re having lovely snow in Torch Lake Township and she is Away, staring at a shoe full of raw fish. Oh wait—I am behind on cultural references again. Not that sushi. This Sushi.
Here’s what she wrote: So I’m missing the first big snow fall in Michigan, but I’m here in Key West. And this is the Bourbon Street Pub where on New Year’s eve Sushi sits in that shoe and is lowered at midnight. CNN with Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin cover this event each year on New Year’s eve. It will be northern Michigan next week, snow and all.
I hate to break this to you, Babs, but the way things have been going, by the time you get back winter may be over. Maybe not.

Sorry, Gerry–not gonna feel sorry for Babs this time! Look at those colors! Look at that sky! She is obviously in a parallel universe–and to think I didn’t think such things were real.

To my astonishment, Key West is real. The Bourbon Street Pub reminds me of Pirates of the Caribbean, which is real too. I have been there. Sailed through the pirately world my ownself. Ate at the subterranean restaurant.
No snow, though, so I came home.

and here I thought I was the only one who celebrated New Year by being lowered from a balcony in a sparkly shoe.

Nothing new under the sun–or under the sparkly orb atop the Bourbon Street Pub either I guess.
