Katherine writes: The changes to the lake in the spring are minute by minute, second by second. A few seconds later, this ice was melted. The sounds the ice makes as it heaves and contracts are incredible—like whales talking, echoes in the water.

Looking at the first image, I was reading “changes in the spring… are minute” with the stress on the second syllable of the last word. Took me a couple times. Oh! Indeed, there’s not a moment when some little change is not underway.
