Babs says this is what it looked like here today.
That is indeed what it looked like over on M-88 as the miraculous orange plow worked away. However. This is what it looked like at the Writing Studio and Bait Shop this morning as I contemplated going over to Sonny’s for breakfast.
Why we might be late to breakfast at Sonny’s in December
Now we are ready to go. Oh dear. Now we must remove the top layers of all that and trudge to the bathroom. It is wise to allow extra time in the winter. Lots of extra time.

Reminds me of visiting an old friend years ago. She had several young children and lived on a farm. When she asked if I wanted to go out and see the cows, I put my coat right on, and she laughed. All the little kids had to be booted and capped and coated and mittened before we could go out to the barn. –And when our dogs are ready to run out the door, aren’t they patient while we put on all our gear first?
The cat bag is cool, by the way. The dogs aren’t jealous, either, are they?

Miss Sadie and the Cowboy reserve judgment until I put on a coat and footwear. Footwear in particular is a sure sign of Going Outside. Once they have established that we are indeed Going Outside, they are quite bouncy and happy.
I’m glad you like the cat bag. The dogs tolerate it quite well, as it is often stocked with treats. I do not think they really know that’s a cat on the bag. Dogs are not, in my estimation, particularly into visual abstractions. If it doesn’t smell like a cat, it can’t be a cat. Not that the cat bag doesn’t sometimes bear a certain kittyfur fragrance, but that’s another post entirely.

Sometimes it’s just too much trouble going outside. I’m voting for staying inside. Although breakfast at Sonny’s sounds so tempting…

It was very good. Chris experimented with potato pancakes this morning, and got rave reviews from all the samplers. Of course, PJ stocked up on tea, chocolate and oranges and had a cozy reading day at home today. There are many ways to have a really nice snow day. Hope you had one too.

Katherine writes: Gerry, Here’s what the cat does when it’s snowing out. The dog doesn’t understand this looking and wants to go out into it, meaning I have to go too. Which, takes a bit of doing this time of year. I like your photos of your outdoor “gear”. I have to put almost the same things on for THE WALK.

Sammy is a sensible cat. It is cold out there. Heck, it’s cold in here.

You are infinitely more sensible than I, Gerry. I was out on Saturday night (bearing in mind that over a foot of snow is still melting in this town) and thought that high-heeled suede shoes were the way to go. I could hear my mother in my head, telling me how daft I was, but somehow the wellies just didn’t complete the ‘look’. I survived in one piece, thanks to hanging on to some sturdy male colleagues and a taxi home! Lesson learned? Somehow I doubt it. If I haven’t learned by this age, I’m not going to.

I can just see you tripping along in cute shoes with the sturdy males in attendance! They would probably whip off their coats and spread them across the slush for you. If I were there, they would ask to borrow my coat to spread before you.
This is why I am looking for a forest ranger. It is my conviction that forest rangers are capable of appreciating a woman in snowpants and good boots. Or that just one of them is likely to be appreciative, and one is all I’m looking for. 🙂

Layers…the way to stay warm and safe during the winter. Question, can you move once you get it all on? 🙂

Quite briskly! It’s cold out there.

You should have a sleigh! After all you have two healthy friends. But perhaps they haven’t any intentions on working for their food 🙂
The Writing Studio and Bait Shop looks very good in these white surroundings.
Is it far to Sonnys?
Now all of us Danish bloggers have met, why don’t you all Americans do the same?
😉

Miss Sadie and the Cowboy do have jobs around here. Miss Sadie is Director of Spindancing. The Cowboy is Director of Security. They share responsibilities in the area of Warmth Maintenance and Laughter. I am in charge of the food and the money, on account of having opposable thumbs.
It is just under two miles to Sonny’s. I can snowshoe over there in a pinch.
All the American bloggers were going to meet, but now the Minneapolis Metrodome has collapsed we have had to postpone the gathering. Meanwhile we get acquainted in twos and threes.

I would say this equipment is the least to wear on ordinary cold day, I realy don´t understand how anyone can go out with less. On realy cold days, one should stay home, not to scare other people by the sight of a walking wardrobe.
I like the red sweater.

This morning it was 10 degrees F. (-12 C.) here at the Writing Studio and Bait Shop. As I write this, it has warmed up all the way to 15 degrees F. (-9 C.). If I could, I would wrap myself in my down comforter before going outside. But I can’t.
I’m glad you like the red sweater. I like it too. It’s red. 🙂

Gerry, it looks like it would be fun playing in the snow, love the boots.

It is fun playing in it. No fun at all driving in it, but there you go. I love the boots too. Excellent boots.

Oh my! Look at that snow! We’re not getting snow here. Wonderful gear for cold weather and I like those boots!

You’re not getting snow yet? Oh well. Your turn will come. And then you will pile on the same kinds of stuff. The boots are working out very well so far.

I imagine you looking a bit like the little brother in “A Christmas Story” once you have put on all your layers: “I can’t put my arms down!” he cries.
Just a dusting of snow here, didn’t even stick to the roads. Still waiting for the “real thing.”
I love your dogs’ management titles. It is so true that they know when the human is planning to take them out for walks. They are mildly interested while I dress myself to go out, but the true excitement comes when the tell-tale baggies are placed in my pocket!

Heck, between the Happy Cat Bag and the leashes and the camera and the cinnamon rolls I can’t put my arms down in the summer.
I wish you lots of nice, fluffy snow.
Dogs are smarter than they let on.
