This morning I poured a cup of coffee and sat down to see what Mrs. Uhdd has been up to over in the north of England. It turns out that she is celebrating the third anniversary of her admirable blog. Three years of posts about drystone walls, weather sweeping across the hills and dales, fellrunners, chickens, wildflowers, dogs, mines, sheep, the sea—each graced with exceptional photos and thoughtful links.
I decided to make her a greeting post, and to experiment a little with exposure while I was at it. I have been playing with stones and water and fire all morning, and I must say it has been a lot of fun. I have a new appreciation for people who know how to make images of lit candles. Like so many things, it’s harder than it looks.

Now isn’t that the sweetest of things
You’ve made my day!
One day I’ll come and see those beautiful stones of yours, a rock pilgrimage.

Now see if we had highspeed internet I could have cobbled together a singing greeting post, with Miss Sadie and the Cowboy providing backup warbling as I belted out Happy Birthday. Perhaps it’s just as well we don’t have it.
