Babs Young reports that do-it-yourself builders are giving the area housing market a much-needed boost. She writes: Ms. Crow here likes this lovely spring weather we are having so she can begin to build her new home.
Miss Puss has been watching the activity with great interest but without much ambition. She is getting to be an old kitty, and has grown wise. Crows are pretty fierce, and she . . . is not so fierce anymore.
Every week photographer Babs Young captures moments in northern Michigan, and every week she sends one to Torch Lake Views just for you. You can find more of her photos at the Babs Young Photo Archives and on her Blue Heaven Flickr photostream.

I witnessed a lot of pre-nesting and nesting behavior over the weekend myself. Busy time of year for the avian population.
Black animals are tough to photograph. Nice work, Babs.

I’m a bit concerned about the crow’s nest about thirty feet up in the tree at the bottom of our garden. They’ve just started construction, and we’ve got high winds today – it’s looking a bit shoogly. They’re determined, though, and have been zipping about all morning, since wakening me ridiculously early with a squawking match! Our little cat is watching from the comfort of the window-sill, mrrrp-ing encouragement (or threats, I’m not sure).

Nice capture of that crow up close. The closest I get is on the telephone wire…high five, Babs!

Thanks, Cindy Lou. I sometimes (actually, often) forget that being from Away, the words I use every day aren’t used elsewhere. There’s lots more – I’ll try to work as many as possible into future comments! As a starter, the weather’s been a bit dreich this weekend.

giid is flipping through her wordbook at a furious pace. Shoogly, mrrrp-ing, dreich–what has the world come to? It must be time for me to do another muskie post.
