Katherine has been laid up a bit, and had time to think up all sorts of things. Last week she wrote, I sprained my foot a few days ago so I’ve been hobbling around trying to walk the dog briefly. It’s okay I just have to walk sideways with one foot because if it bends it hurts!! Maybe I’ll take photos of the footprints.
I like the way her mind works. Now that she’s out and about, she sent this: Finally can get out to take photos somewhat. Here’s one for you that doesn’t need explanation. (I don’t think.)
Well I don’t know. We’ll see if it needs explanation. Meanwhile, I just noticed the cunning little mousetracks in the foreground. Nice.

Maybe it’s been a long week, or I’m just tired, but I need an explanation. Or maybe it’s because I’m still quite new to your blog. Or maybe I’m just thick!

It has definitely been a long week. You are not thick. Katherine is subtle. And a comic. Katherine! An explanation is required! (We’ll see if she’s checking the feedback. Back soon.)

It’s a deer blind that someone used an old sign as part of one of the walls. Just thought it was cute!
I didn’t check the other side to see what was on the other side.

Katherine! You checked the feedback! Life is good.
Fee, this post makes a nice contrast to the Taj Mahal of deer blinds featured earlier this week (see A snowshoe party on Chandler Hill). Deer blinds–and fishing shanties, too–in northern Michigan are generally constructed from recycled materials salvaged from almost anywhere. John King sided a fishing shanty with old litho plates from a defunct local newspaper. A deer blind in the swamp behind me was made of rusty real estate signs. These folks used a sign that was probably draped across a business that had just opened and wanted to let the world know that it was open until 10:00 every night except Sunday, when it was closed. I can’t believe Katherine didn’t look at the other side. That’s the first thing I would have done. Then, of course, I would have missed the photo for some reason, like the Cowboy escaping from the car. Katherine, keeping her eye on the main point, captured the iconic image. I am blessed.

Ah, thank you – now it all makes sense.

You’re welcome. So few things in life do make sense that it’s very gratifying to be able to clear up the ones that do.

Oh, aren’t those little mousetracks sweet.
