Babs Young has been over in East Jordan all weekend working on the installation of the current JRAC show. She writes:
This is the hand of Chris Allen-Wickler carefully placing another of the 1000+ rocks in her Big Heart sculpture on a wall at the Jordan River Arts Council. Each rock has had a groove cut into it and fine wire carefully wrapped around it with a loop in the back to hang the rock. This piece is part of a show called Rooting Deep Branching Out. What does it mean to live up north?
Chris is a fiber artist from Sutton’s Bay, where she lives with her husband and two daughters. She was educated at Cranbrook .
And there you have the finished piece, and the tired artist. (I can’t help it. I wonder if there’s a Petoskey stone in there somewhere.)

Wow, it’s beautiful. Stones my favourite thing!

Must find out more about the Big Heart for you. Chris is mousing around on Torch Lake Views – I’ll have to catch her here or at the party on Saturday and do an Official Interview.

I have spoken with Chris and we are going to add a Petoskey Stone at the heart of the heart. It will be placed before the party on Saturday.

This art piece really ROCKS!! It’s brilliant in its simplicity.
I find it interesting that you write that ‘she was educated at Cranbrook.’ Considering her choice of materials, I’ll bet she learned as much by walking along certain shores and other natural places where stones convene. Nature teaches us so much, yet because this education is free and informal, we tend to take it for granted.

This idea belongs to Babs, so she is a collaborator in the piece!!!
