The Torchport Fathers Day Fly-in had everything: sunshine, hosts Duane and Maryanne Jorgensen, lots of volunteers from the Traverse City Chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association, a pancake breakfast, and a whole lot of Fabulous Flying Machines. Funds raised at the breakfast pay for NMC aviation scholarships and for teddy bears emergency personnel give to children who are hurt or frightened. I didn’t see how I could go wrong, so there I was out in the sun taking pictures.
Then I saw Donna Lane. This was a stroke of luck, as Donna is a much better photographer than I am.
Both of us in the same place at the same time, I with my trusty Canon PowerShot, Donna with—well, whatever it is, hers is bigger—and we might as well be standing on different planets. I will not even show you my snapshots. Here are some of Donna’s photos.
OK, here’s one more from me. This is Rod Christopherson, standing next to his homebuilt kit plane, a 100 hp RANS S6ES. It has extra power and larger wings because he built it as a float plane. I find that hard to imagine. I’m working on a longer story. More later.

Maybe one of these years I can get to the Torch Lake Fly-In. Ours is in August. Can’t ask for much more than a sunny day, camera and colorful little planes.
