I ran into Jim Gainey at the Eastport Market. Would I like to see who came to visit his side yard on East Torch Lake Drive? I suspected I would. He whipped out his cellphone and showed me The Bear Who Came to Dinner. Naturally I obtained a copy for you.
The Bear was employed in dismantling a bird feeder, but Jim felt it prudent to keep his distance. There have been other reports of local bear sightings, but this is the only photo I have, and besides, I’m reasonably sure Jim’s a credible witness. Miss Sadie and the Cowboy have been telling me that Something Is Out There, but I have been ignoring them on the assumption that A Raccoon Is Out There. I may have to rethink.

p.s. there ARE raccoons out there too. Maya barked at the window the other night and when we turned on the light there were 2 raccoons and a skunk who was frightened and let loose right by the house, PHEW!!

When you ran into Jim, I hope there were no injuries.

As Jim and I are both well-padded we escaped a trip in the Torch Lake Township ambulance. (Smarty pants!)

Dogs always know when there’s a bear around. Since the berries aren’t out yet, those bears are probably pretty hungry. I’d keep my distance too.

Could be, but this particular one seems to be feasting quite well on the bird feeders in the neighborhood. And wait until he finds out about the industrious bees up at DeKornes’ . . . .
