This from Katherine in this morning’s email: It seems that I am in a rut. A flower rut or rather a flower picture rut. But after last winter it’s so nice to see color I can’t help it. Not as exciting as a burning semi but…it is a fine lady slipper.
I don’t know about you, but I get at least as excited about pink lady slippers (also called moccasin flowers). They used to grow all over the place around the north end of Torch Lake, but they’re harder to find now, and always a happy surprise.

Someone has been reading my mind! Just this morning, driving into town, I was wondering about lady’s-slippers and if they’re in bloom in the swamp.

What a beautiful photograph! They grow in the woods around here but are impossible to transplant.
